VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Technical Officer – Infrastructure

Welthungerhilfe (WHH) was established under the umbrella of the FAO (UN Food and Agriculture Organization) in 1962 and started as the German section of the "Freedom from Hunger Campaign" – one of the first global campaigns to fight hunger. Today it is one of Germany’s leading non-governmental organizations with a dual mandate in both development cooperation and emergency response. Non-profit making, non-denominational and politically independent, Welthungerhilfe works to create a world in which all people can exercise their right to a self-determined life in dignity and justice, free from hunger and poverty. To bring justice for all, WHH partners with civil society organizations in the countries where it operates and is currently partnering with over 260 national and local partners in 37 countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America (www.welthungerhilfe.de). In 2022, Welthungerhilfe supported 18.8 million people with 603 projects abroad.

WHH pursues a dual mandate to ensure our actions meet the needs of the groups we work with, providing humanitarian support for short-term disaster relief as well as long-term development. To achieve sustainable food and nutrition security among the most vulnerable, these programs link our key focus areas interrelated with hunger – agriculture and environment; water, sanitation and hygiene(WASH); economic development; humanitarian assistance; climate change; and civil society and advocacy. Innovation helps to scale the impact.

WHH is operational in Nepal since 2004 and is currently managing different projects in twelve districts under eight thematic areas (sectors): Humanitarian Actions, Agriculture, Climate Reliance and Natural Resource Management, Nutrition & Health, WASH, Economic Development, Civil Society Empowerment, ICT4D and others. WHH works partnership with civil society in Nepal to empower socially marginalized and economically poor citizens, to strengthen their resilience and to ensure their right to adequate food and nutrition through a systems thinking approach. WHH Nepal is also promoting various skills and enterprise development programs leading to Green Development.

WHH is seeking to recruit a Technical Officer – Infrastructure having a good level of technical support in the planning, design, implementation, and monitoring of WASH infrastructure and services at the field level, based at Lahan.  An ideal candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field with at least 3 years of working experience in the construction of water supply systems, sanitation projects and hygiene facilities, including monitoring and supervision to ensure the sustainability of these facilities.
