Position Title: Senior Project Officer
Full/Part Time: Full Time
Reports to: Project Manager
Location: Birgunj with frequent travel within the Birgunj-Simara industrial corridor
Duration of Contract: Initially two years (extendable based on performance and project duration) (Probation period of six months)
Background
Powering Nepal’s Green Industrial Future (Power-GIF) is a Government of Norway–supported initiative aiming to utilize the projected growth in power generation to accelerate Nepal’s transition toward a low-carbon, climate-resilient, and industrialized economy. The initiative, aimed at promoting industrial electrification and clean energy adoption to advance green, resilient and inclusive development, is being implemented by Centre for Rural Technology, Nepal (CRT/N) led consortium in participation of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), Center for Energy Studies (CES), and Ambidience Global Pvt. Ltd. (AmbGlo). With a combination of technical expertise, policy engagement, and strong private sector linkages, the project supports industrial decarbonization through policy support, technology demonstration, capacity building, digital innovations and access to innovative financing solutions.
To lead field-level implementation of project activities providing technical and operational support to the Energy Specialist and Green Finance and Industrial Energy, the project is looking for a Senior Project Officer
Scope of Work
Under the supervision of the Project Manager and in close coordination with the Energy Specialist and the Green Finance and Industrial Energy Expert, the Senior Project Officer will be responsible for
- Leading and coordinating field-level activities on the implementation of renewable energy and energy efficiency (RE & EE) interventions in selected industries at the project sites.
- Conducting detailed site assessments, baseline data collection, and technical verification to support design and planning by the Energy Specialist and Green Finance and Industrial Energy Expert.
- Supervising energy audits, measurement campaigns, and installation/retrofit activities ensuring adherence to technical standards and safety protocols.
- Monitoring daily/weekly progress of field activities and report deviations, risks, and implementation challenges.
- Ensuring quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of all installed systems, equipment, and implemented energy efficiency measures.
- Facilitating testing, commissioning, and performance verification of installed RE & EE systems.
- Facilitating capacity building sessions for industry operators and local technicians.
- Maintaining detailed field records, including measurement data, installation logs, photographic documentation, and monitoring reports.
- Supporting pilot demonstrations and validation of energy-saving technologies in coordination with the technical team.
- Providing input for periodic technical progress reports.
- Supporting stakeholder coordination at local level, including municipalities, industrial associations, and utility representatives as required.
- Supporting documentation of case studies, pilot results, and lessons learned from implementation.
- Performing other duties as required in line with project needs.
Workstation
The Senior Project Officer will be based in Birgunj, Nepal with frequent industrial visits in the Birgunj-Simara industrial corridor.
Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- Master’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Energy, Technology or related field).
- Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and/or industrial energy systems.
- Proven experience in conducting industrial energy audits, facilitating introduction of energy management systems and/or fuel-switching interventions introducing renewable energy systems in industrial or commercial sectors.
- Strong understanding of energy audit methodologies, baseline assessments, and performance monitoring systems with training in Energy Auditing and/ or energy management.
- Experience in conducting investment-grade energy auditing at all scale of industries, green finance projects, or donor-funded industrial energy programs will be an advantage.
- Familiarity with financial concepts related to investment in energy projects such as payback period, IRR, NPV, and cost-benefit analysis is preferred.
- Exposure to MRV systems, energy data collection, and verification frameworks is highly desirable.
- Strong technical knowledge of industrial systems (motors, boilers, compressed air systems, HVAC, pumps, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to lead field teams as well as coordinating with multi-stakeholders including government agencies, industries, industrial associations, financial institutions, consultants at local level, and managing on-site technical activities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, energy modelling tools, and data analysis tools
- Ability to work independently in field conditions and manage multiple sites simultaneously.
- Knowledge of occupational health, safety, and environmental standards in industrial settings.
- Fluency in English and Nepali (written and spoken). Knowledge of Bhojpuri language will be considered an added advantage.
Working Hours
- Working hours will align with project office’s normal schedule (Monday to Friday)

- Remuneration and allowances are based on qualifications and experience, in line with project’s human resource policies. Applicants are strongly recommended to state their salary expectations in the cover letter.
