It works in research, publications, advocacy, training, and social mobilization in a holistic community development approach. Green Tara Nepal aims to bridge the gap between rural and urban, rich and poor, and men and women in accessing services and improving healthy behaviors through community development and health promotion approach.

Kids at School in Nepal (KASIN), is a Charity organisation working in Nepal since 2004, with the vision that all children have the right to a decent education. It is helping children from disadvantaged communities in rural Nepal to realise their full potential.

Green Tara Nepal (GTN) in partnership Kids at School in Nepal (KASIN) and coordination with Jangajamuna rural municipality are anticipating to implement a two-year’s school and community health project in Dhading. The main objective of the project is to improve the quality of education, health and well-being among children in the targeted area and to make them capable at access these. Our aim is that all children will have the right and opportunity to learn in a healthy and stimulating environment

We are looking an experienced and highly qualified Nepali candidates for the School and Community Health Promotion Project. Candidates with proven skills of meeting the requirements and dedicated to work in NGO are encouraged to apply for this position:

Position: School and Community Health Promotion Officer

Required number: 1

Duty station: Gangajamuna Rural Municipality Office at Phulkharka (require field visit in various schools and communities within Gangajamuna municipility)

Accountable to: Green Tara Nepal and Kids at School in Nepal

Reporting to:

  • Work under the supervision of Country Director (or assigned person) of GTN; Chairperson, Vice-Chair person and Chief Administrative Officer of Gangajamuna municipality
  • Maintain regular communication with Kids at School in Nepal (Liz/Patrick Wherity) and Tamang Kharka Alumni member (Padam Simkhada)

Academic qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, or Nursing or Health Education with some healthcare background (e.g. HA, Staff Nurse, Pharmacy).

Key Skills:

Candidate should have a mature, non-judgmental, confident and caring manner. The ability to interact well with people from a wide range of backgrounds, together with good problem solving and project/time management skills are essential. Excellent communication skills are vital, as is the ability to motivate others.

Major Responsibilities

a) Programme planning and implementation 

  • Coordinate with Palika, manage and maintain effective coordination and collaboration with local stakeholders for smooth running of the project; and to ensure project activities are well understood and accepted at local level. 
  • Conduct regular health education sessions at school and health promotion activities within the community.
  • Support for regular health check of pupils, referring pupils to appropriate health facilities for further treatment if required.
  • Identify the pupils who have learning difficulties, identify pupils who are not performing well. Help them to overcome these problems through one-to-one counselling, home visits and other means. 
  • Design, manage and promote health improvement programmes within the school and in the communities.
  • Liaising with, supporting the work of, and providing expert advice to other voluntary, charity and statutory organisations (such as the Health Post, other NGOs and Feeder schools
  • Provide training to primary level teachers including feeder schools

b) Recording and reporting 

  • Make presentations at all levels.
  • Write reports as required by the project (this will be discussed during planning)

c) Administrative

  • Work as assigned by the line Manager 

Remuneration

  • Salary will be at the range of graduate high school teacher plus other benefits (travel and communication)
  • Initial contract will be for 2 years (renewed every year)

Selected candidates must adherence to GTN policies and procedures, protocols, code of conduct with special attention to Child Protection Policies and Do No Harm approach including funding agency’s policies, guidelines and agreements.
