The core focus of FAIRMED's work in Nepal is Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) – Leprosy, LF, Kalaazar, etc and Maternal and Neonatal Health (MNH), while it interweaves GESI and Disability Inclusive Development (DID) as cross cutting themes into its programs to strengthen the health system and increase the uptake of public health services.

Details / requirements:

The Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator is responsible for leading the Research, M&E and Knowledge Management to enable organization to capture, organize, and utilize the collective knowledge generated from its project performance & contribution. Prepare a centralized database for collecting information, ensuring that valuable knowledge and learning of the organisation is preserved and made accessible to the team and stakeholders to help improve organisation’s efficiencies and showcasing its impact. S/he will be primarily responsible for identifying areas of research, studies, learning and developing knowledge management products for overseeing the planning, development, and implementation of monitoring and evaluation strategies at FAIRMED. Moreover, this role involves designing data collection tools, conducting data analysis, and producing comprehensive reports to measure program effectiveness. The position is expected to share findings from the monitoring of interventions, selected studies to be utilized in programs/ projects to provide insights for strategic and evidence-based decision-making. Additionally, this position will be responsible for generating evidence for advocacy, facilitating training on M&E methodologies, ensuring compliance with data quality standards and providing feedback to the project management. This role is crucial for organizations seeking to achieve and demonstrate tangible results and outcomes at the beneficiary level.

Major job responsibilities

  • Lead the research process, from identifying and developing key research areas to designing methodologies and instruments for data collection ensuring the ethical integrity of research practices through collaborations with relevant authorities for approvals.

  • Transform research findings into actionable insights that enhance program effectiveness and inform policy decisions.

  • Oversee the enhancement and operational effectiveness of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems, including the use of the LogAlto online reporting system, KOBO collect and QGIS to ensure comprehensive tracking, update in the system and reporting of project progress, particularly focusing on the "Leave No One Behind" (LNOB) approach. This involves coordinating with FAIRMED HQ for system implementation and support.

  • Regularize LogAlto reporting of all projects from the field and provide technical support as needed. Track the information for the indicators listed in the project log frame including global LNOB indicators.

  • Ensure quality of semiannual and annual narrative reports of projects prepared for HQ  and donor reports.  
  • Capture and collect the issues-based additional information from the field to report as requested by DOHS, MoHP divisions and sections.

  • Develop and refine M&E frameworks and tools, such as logical frameworks, M&E plans, and performance indicators, while also leading efforts in capacity building through training and mentoring of project staff in M&E and research methodologies.

  • Facilitate baseline, midterm, and final evaluations of projects in collaboration with partners project Team. Facilitate the Monitoring visits of SWC and federal-level government officials.

  • Regularly compile and analyze data from M&E systems to produce detailed reports that reflect progress trends, Gaps, and learning outcomes from projects, providing critical feedback to enhance project quality and effectiveness. Coordinate with project M&E for effective monitoring to guide project performance towards meeting strategic goals and maintaining high standards.

  • Assist Head of Programs to design new project concept, and proposals,  and effective evidence generation and knowledge management strategies, ensuring the creation, documentation, and dissemination of organizational knowledge both internally and externally through various channels including thematic papers, technical briefs, and online platforms.
  • Represent FAIRMED at appropriate in health system platforms, and technical groups related to Research, Monitoring and Evaluation.

Required Qualifications and Experiences

  • At least Master’s degree in public health, and statistics or any other relevant health or social sciences with health system experience

  • At least 7 years’ experience in research, monitoring, evaluation, developing and implementing monitoring and evaluation strategies,

  • Experience of conducting quantitative and/or qualitative research or studies preferably operational and or implementation research

  • Proven knowledge of current issues and innovation in M&E, skill in knowledge management

  • Experience in the usage of frequently used decent statistical software packages

  • Skills to critically analyze data and generate relevant reports to guide program to make informed decisions

  • Experience in capacity development of staff and or partners in research, monitoring & evaluation, and information management system

  • Experience of working in Nepal’s health system and governance issues

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Nepali and Teamwork.
