Project information:

Strengthening and Expanding Mental Health Care in Nepal is a 4-year (January 2023 to December 2026) project that aims to raise awareness on mental health and increase access to mental health services in public health networks in Okhaldhunga and Sindhuli districts. The focus is on strengthening primary-level out-patient treatment in line with WHO’s Special Initiative for Mental Health recommendations and National Mental Health Strategy and Action Plan (2077-082). This will be achieved through capacity building of – teachers, female community health volunteers (FCHVs), and healthcare workers on MHPSS and by organizing mental health workshops at schools and communities. Furthermore, the project aims to provide vocational training and livelihood support to the most vulnerable persons and to form and operate municipal committees for advocacy and sensitization process. 

The project is being implemented by TPO Nepal in Four rural municipalities of Okhaldhunga and Sindhuli districts with the financial support of Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR), Finland. 

TPO Nepal seeks competent, committed, and result-oriented candidates for the following position:

Job Title                                :       Psychosocial Counselor

Major responsibilities:

The Psychosocial Counselor will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:

  • Undertake vulnerability assessments, provide appropriate psychosocial intervention to the community people and make referrals for further support.
  • Conduct psychosocial group interventions and provide focused psychosocial support to clients in need.
  • Conduct community-based psychosocial orientation and sensitization programs.
  • Collaboration and coordination with Municipality.
  • Follow up the trained FCHVs, Teachers and other health workers for the case referral.
  • Maintain case documentation.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings and weekly peer supervision and support meetings.
  • Make frequent field visits for case identification and provide essential psychosocial support.
  • Advocate for the promotion of psychosocial support activities with local governments and other stakeholders.
  • Follow the inputs and additional responsibilities provided by the project coordinator when it comes to the strategic benefits of the project.

Qualification, Skills, and Experience:

  • The candidate must have a bachelor's in any discipline along with six-month psychosocial counseling training/Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Counseling Psychology. A master’s degree in Psychology would be preferable.
  • At least one year of working experience as a psychosocial counselor
  • Able to work in a multicultural environment
  • Perform any other training-related assignments as directed by the clinical supervisor and project focal person.
  • Able to make field visits frequently within and out of the main duty station as required by the project's activities.
  • Sound knowledge and skills of the computer, email, and internet. Able to prepare reports in Microsoft word and excel and submit them to the project focal person.
  • Preference will be given to those who can understand and speak local languages, both written and spoken, and preferably English as well.
  • Able to drive two wheelers vehicle with valid license.
