Transcultural Psychosocial Organization Nepal (TPO) Nepal is one of Nepal’s leading psychosocial organizations. It was established in 2005 to promote psychosocial well-being and mental health of people in conflict-affected and other vulnerable communities through the development of sustainable, culturally-appropriate, and community-based psychosocial support systems.

Project information:

TPO Nepal is implementing activities under the “Strengthen systems for prevention and promotion of child and adolescent mental health” Flood Response project. The project aims to delivery safe, inclusive, ethical and quality mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) to children, adolescents, caregivers, families and other affected and vulnerable populations in communities affected by Bhotekoshi-Rasuwa Flash flood.

For this purpose, TPO Nepal seeks competent, committed and result oriented candidates for the following position:

Major responsibilities

The MD Psychiatrist will provide specialized clinical and technical leadership to the Community Mental Health Unit (CMHU) in flood-affected districts of Baghmati Province, Nepal, focusing on recovery and continuity of mental health services. The Psychiatrist will be responsible for following duties but not limited to:

• Support the establishment and functioning of the CMHU and provide clinical supervision to the multidisciplinary team.
• Conduct outreach clinics, providing psychiatric assessment, consultation, medication, follow-up and timely referral of complex and high-risk cases.
• Maintain confidential clinical records and prepare required service and programme reports.
• Coordinate and support to psychologists, psychiatric nurses, counsellors and frontline health workers on case management and referral.
• Facilitate mental health and psychosocial training, stress management, self-care sessions for frontline health workers.
• Coordinate with municipalities, health facilities, government authorities and other stakeholders to strengthen community mental health services and referral mechanisms.
• Ensure safeguarding, confidentiality, informed consent and child-friendly approaches in all service delivery.
• Perform other relevant mental health services assigned by the organization.

Qualification, Skills and Experience:

• MD in Psychiatry from a recognized university/institution.
• Valid registration with the Nepal Medical Council.
• Relevant experience in providing psychiatric consultation, diagnosis, treatment, and referral services will be an advantage.
• Experience in conducting mental health camps or providing mental health services in community settings will be preferred.
• Good communication, interpersonal, documentation, and coordination skills.
• Willingness to work in field settings and travel within the assigned area as required.
• Commitment to confidentiality, professional ethics, safeguarding and respectful service delivery.
