The Good Shepherd International Foundation ONLUS (GSIF) is an Italian not-for-profit organization based and registered in Rome, created in 2008 by the Good Shepherd sisters to support their missions in developing countries. GSIF works with the GS sisters and its partners in different countries by supporting the management of their projects. The GSIF supports programs run by Good Shepherd Sisters and its partners that strive to protect and promote human rights for these people, to create the conditions for economic justice within society, and to change unjust systems.

GSIF Nepal, the branch office of GSIF, is a non-profit non-governmental organization for development cooperation that works to support children, women, and local communities in the fight against poverty and inequalities and promotes sustainable development. GSIF Nepal works on initiatives that eradicate poverty through sustainable economic development driven by women; provides services to protect and empower the human rights of women and children and contributes to building inclusive communities.

GSIF Nepal is looking for a suitable candidate for the implementation of a short-term earthquake response project in the Jajarkot district.

Position: Project Officer – Emergency Response, Jajarkot

Location: Jajarkot, Karnali

Hours: Full-time 

Reports to: Program Manager, GSIF Nepal

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Travel: frequent travel to project sites and occasional travel to Kathmandu

Job purpose:

According to the Values and Mission of GSIF, the Project Officer contributes to maximizing the effectiveness and social impact of GSIF by:

  • Effective implementation of the Earthquake response project in Jajarkot district of Karnali province. 
  • Working in partnership and co-responsibility with other Good Shepherd mission partners for the effectiveness and sustainability of the project.
  • Coordination with District Disaster Management Committee and the local municipality assigned by the committee. 

Key Result areas and activities/responsibilities:

  • Close coordination with District Disaster Management Committee for proper planning of the project aligning with the legal procedures.
  • Need assessment of the communities to be benefitted from the project.
  • Identification of the families eligible for the support.
  • Coordination with the local government assigned by the DDMC for timely implementation 
  • Organize inception and review meetings with stakeholders in the district and the communities. 
  • Ensure the standards set by the Government of Nepal in constructing temporary shelters are met.
  • Support the team in timely procurement and delivery of goods.
  • Regular reporting of the constraints, progress, and achievements of the project to the management team of GSIF Nepal.
  • Ensure the procedures of the Government of Nepal are met in all aspects of the project planning, implementation and closure.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in social science, development studies or other related fields
  • 3+ years of experience and understanding of the NGO sector in Nepal.
  • Proven experience of managing short-term emergency response projects is highly preferred.
  • Capable of writing event and project reports
  • Experience in facilitating meetings with stakeholders, and more particularly in the communities
  • Knowledge of project cycle management
  • Experience in data processing (Microsoft Word), spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel), and communicating via E-mail, and Internet browser software
