Nepal Youth Foundation Nepal (NYF Nepal) is a non-profit organization working for the rights and welfare of underprivileged children and youth of Nepal through educational, health, and other humanitarian projects.
NYF Nepal is implementing the Caste Equality Project (CEP) in the Saptari district to empower the Dalit communities and facilitate the upliftment of the entire communities from the most pertinent challenges they face, viz: education, extreme poverty, caste discrimination, marginalization, and harmful practices such as early marriage and gender discrimination. For the successful implementation of this project, NYF Nepal is seeking experienced and self-motivated candidates for the following positions in the field office.
1. Project Officer - CEP (Required Number – 1)
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Support in the identification of social issues concerning education, health, hygiene, discrimination (against caste & gender), early marriage, and other social malpractices and also execute program activities for the upliftment of the entire community/target group. Conduct community awareness programs and play an active role in enrolling/increasing access of school for children who are deprived of education.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Education & Health:
- Collect data of children who are out of school and formulate a plan to bring them for enrollment at school.
- Conduct door-to-door visits and motivate the parents/guardians to send their children regularly and stay full hours at school. Manage to provide needed support (educational materials and uniforms) as per the program plan.
- Coordinate directly with schools for regular attendance of the children.
- Coordinate with the school for day meal management for students (ensure student number, timings, kitchen setup, and cook management) and ensure that the children are getting hygienic day meals regularly.
- Promote proper health and sanitary practices (including nutrition and washing) in the community; educate, orient, and arrange logistical support in line with the program plan.
2. Skills Enhancement & Economic Well-being:
- To uplift economic well-being and skills enhancement, reach out to the target group (youths, young mothers, women groups) and organize/conduct group interaction, and orientations and identify suitable vocational training relevant to market situation and interest areas of prospective trainees. Accordingly, connect with suitable training providers/vocational schools. Study market situation, and analyze prospective job/employment opportunities in local/nearby areas vs. other areas.
3. Social movement against malpractices:
- Carry out contextually relevant awareness activities against discrimination (gender, caste) and to control/prevent early marriage and other social malpractices.
4. Coordination, Reporting & Support:
- Coordinate with different government agencies and authorities, fulfill necessary compliance and documentation requirements as needed, and follow up activities for the success of program activities.
- Work under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator (Chief of the CEP Program) and assist him/her in achieving program goals. Submit monthly progress report.
- Assist and provide inputs to strengthen the program strategy/action plan in line with the organization's main objective.
- Act as per the situation and help to formulate the work plan under the law of the land and fulfill the objective of the organization.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Rural Development, Social Science)
- Experience: 2 years experience in direct field/community work is desirable.
- Training: Training in community mobilization is (preferred)
- Knowledge: Community mobilization, working with marginalized and disadvantaged communities.
- Skills, Abilities & behavior: Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, agreeable & adaptive to changes, learning aptitude, self-motivated & goal/task-oriented, careful handling of office equipment, organizing and managing tasks; able to effectively work on computer (Windows-based applications); always exhibit and maintain professional ethics, should be sincere and honest at work, must not be biased and oppressive to any other caste, religion, politics, or any other principles.
- Duty Station: Saptari (Province 2, Eastern Terai).
- Language: Maithili, English and Nepali.
- Others: Min Driving license for two-wheeler (motorbike/scooter).
