Bheri Environmental Excellence Group (BEE-Group) is an autonomous, independent, non-partisan, and non-governmental organization. It was established in 2000 AD, registered in the District Administration Office, Banke, and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council, Kathmandu. BEE-Group has been doing collaborative advocacy for the protection and promotion of human rights, establishment of social justice, gender equality, social inclusion and environmental conservation, and community development through community empowerment and mobilization for meaningful participation and networking since its establishment in Lumbini, Sudurpaschim, and Karnali Province of Nepal with building a trustworthy reputation.

BEE-Group in partnership with Médecins du Monde France (MdM-France) has been implementing a project "Supporting Occupational and Environmental Health Project in Banke" since 2021. The project has two working scopes; Healthy Waste Workers and Reduction of pesticide to ensure the occupational health safety of farmers. The project majorly intervenes in three municipalities of Banke district. The objectives of the project are (1) improving the health and well-being of the farmers and waste workers, (2) improving access to prevention and occupational health services (3) mitigating occupational health risk and environmental hazard exposure. Similarly, the project also works to increase their recognition among the communities by the end of the project. Hence, BEE-Group is seeking a qualified, experienced, and self-motivated individual for the project. 

1. Position: Project Coordinator – One

Duty Station: Based at BEE-Group office, Banke, and frequently visits the project area

Job Summary: 

The primary responsibility of the project coordinator will be providing comprehensive leadership in reporting to both the partner organization and donor agency. Key responsibilities include designing project activities, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, and reporting as a team leader. Additionally, the coordinator will facilitate collaboration with local government and civil society organizations to bolster systems supporting health and wellbeing, and environmental and occupational health for farmers and waste workers. Furthermore, the coordinator will play a pivotal role in fostering synergy between local governments and similar stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director (ED) of the organization, the project coordinator will ensure the timely implementation of activities and tracking of project results in coordination with the partner organization MdM-France and stakeholders such as local governments and like-minded organizations. The coordinator will actively participate in facilitating efficient project implementation according to detailed guidelines and budget plans, as well as team mobilization efforts. Moreover, they will ensure project success in alignment with the MEAL framework and project's log-frame, contributing to ongoing program development. Close collaboration with the technical support team of MdM-France's field office in Nepalgunj will also be a key aspect of the coordinator's role.

Key responsibility:

Project planning and delivery   

  • Ensure effective and efficient planning and implementation of the activities under the project objectives, results, indicators, and strategy with desired output within the approved time frame of the project document, budget, and work plan. 
  • Ensuring the adequate understanding of the project plan and approaches by staff and stakeholders and providing necessary technical guidance to them. 
  • Ensure that the project objectives and targets are achieved in a timely manner and that activities are carried out according to the standards: the major outputs are 
    1. Sanitation workers and farmers strengthen their individual and collective capacities to prevent harm related to waste management and pesticide use, and mitigate environmental exposure contributing to improved well-being and health, 
    2. Sanitation workers and farmers have access to quality health care and occupational health services, through existing health facilities, 
    3. Coordination between local governments and like-minded stakeholders is improved and contributes to safe and decent practices in waste management and farming as well as recognition of environmental, social, and health consequences due to waste handling and pesticide use, 
    4. Sustainable alternatives and initiatives are supported in waste management and organic farming, contributing to safeguarding the health of targeted sanitation workers, the community, and the environment.
  • Support and facilitate to project team and mobilize them for conducting regular meetings within the project team, and project stakeholders and share relevant information with the Executive Director to address challenges and discover compliances to create a constructive work environment.
  • Ensure practice is established for a reflective learning environment within a project team, and organization and functioning of strong and effective teamwork. Coordinate with other stakeholders (i.e., government, academia, I/NGOs, research institutes, etc. as relevant) to share the project's knowledge as well as to encourage them to capture and disseminate learning and knowledge related to the project interventions. 
  • Ensure proper management of financial transactions referring to the compliances. And ensure the quality implementation of budget-related responsibilities.
  • Documentation, generation of appropriate knowledge product as per the project plan, and reporting to the partner organization and donor agency according to the agreed standards and timely manner. 
  • Contribute to developing guidelines, templates, training, and support to project members involved in data collection, and ensure the monitoring tools are operated correctly.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Implement and follow up effective monitoring and evaluation mechanisms coordination with MdM-France field office Nepalgunj, to ensure project objective.
  • Prepare annual, quarterly, and monthly plans and Standard Operational Procedures for the execution of the project activities in accordance with the program's logical framework and global Gantt chart.
  • Contribute to developing guidelines, templates, training, and support to project members involved in data collection, and ensure the monitoring tools are operated correctly.
  • Accountable for the entering of data in relevant tools, such as the Monitoring tool (Moni-tools), for the project activities. Contribute to the analysis of programs' results and potential corrective measures to be taken, in collaboration with the Executive Director of BEE Group and Project Manager and the team of MdM France. 
  • Responsible for periodic reporting (monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual) of both programmatic and financial in a quality and timely manner per the project guidelines and requirements.  
  • Prepare, implement, and facilitate the evaluation process according to the initial project timeline and in coordination with government authorities and the MdM-France coordination team.

Coordination, communication, and Advocacy

  • Coordination with stakeholders, advocacy, and resource generation.
  • Communication and coordination with relevant stakeholders, government authorities, and donor agencies for better implementation of the project interventions.
  • Maintain relationships with the beneficiaries, local and district government authorities, and other relevant stakeholders ensuring that transparency at all levels is maintained and project information communicated to relevant stakeholders in a timely fashion.
  • Understand that the specific knowledge and skills to get the work done and to deliver organizational outcomes are collaboratively supported when required between different thematic areas and projects.
  • Assist the fund-raising team of the organization to develop fundraising proposals.
  • Support the management team for updating and implementing the resource generation and mobilization plan.

Strengthening the Organizational Profile

  • Support to prepare and implement a learning capturing and dissemination plan and to ensure that learning and knowledge of the project and activities are effectively captured and disseminated to help achieve the organization's objectives.
  • Coordinate with other stakeholders (i.e., consults, government, academia, I/NGOs, research institutes, etc. as relevant) to share the project's knowledge as well as to encourage them to capture and disseminate learning and knowledge related to the project interventions.
  • Lead the team to prepare and disseminate a learning capturing and dissemination plan. Assist in updating the organizational periodic and safety security plan and other responsibilities assigned by supervisors.

Competencies and personal specification: 

  • Strong conceptual, and interpersonal communication, negotiation, facilitation, and representation skills with working experiences in areas of environmental and occupational health safety.   
  • Proven knowledge, skills, and experience in leading teams, building relationships and working in partnership with local government, and civil society organizations, and maintaining a congenial working liaison with all stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in circular economy and Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse (3R) principles along with expertise in strengthening CSOs and cooperatives.
  • Skills in different data collection tools and techniques.
  • Demonstrated strong skills in advocating for waste management and pesticide reduction.
  • Demonstrated strong skills in team-building with an ability to coach and mentor the project team.  
  • Proven knowledge and skills in program planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Proven experience in working with diverse communities, and cultures, and ability to cope with stress and decision making with appropriate communication. 
  • Good command of English and Nepali both written and spoken with MS PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

Qualification and Experiences:

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in development studies, rural development, social science, management, or other relevant discipline from a recognized institution with a preference for five years of experience in a relevant field. The candidate must have a valid motorbike/scooter license and be willing to travel in the community frequently.
