About Stay At School Nepal

Stay At School Nepal (SSN) was founded in 2017 as a national level Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), registered with Kathmandu District Administration Office (Regd. No. 235) and affiliated with Social Welfare Council (Affiliation No. 46536). SSN's mission is "to create brighter futures through better education" for the community school children of Solukhumbu. To achieve this mission, SSN is implementing Hostel Project, Fellowship Program, and Second Home Program in partnership with local governments and community schools.

SSN currently implements three key projects / programs to achieve its mission:

1. Hostel Project

Through the Hostel Project, SSN supports the construction, operation, and management of hostel facilities in public schools, creating educational hubs for local communities. The project enables children to stay at school longer and increases their opportunities for a happy, fulfilled, and prosperous life.

Currently, SSN supports six public schools in Solukhumbu District with hostel project, with approximately 48 students benefiting from each hostel annually.

2. Fellowship Program

SSN has been implementing a five-year Fellowship Program since 2023, providing scholarship and mentoring support to students from partner schools. Scholarship support includes quarterly cash assistance to help cover students’ educational and living expenses, while mentoring support includes sessions focused on important life skills.

Currently, approximately 100 Fellows from six partner schools are supported under the Fellowship Program.

3. Second Home Program

SSN is implementing a five-year Second Home Program for students from partner schools who are pursuing higher studies in Salleri.

The proposed program will provide a learning-conducive environment and services such as tuition classes, counselling, training, IT facilities, laundry services, and social events. The Second Home will function as a learning center where students can effectively utilize their free time before and after school/college hours under the supervision of the Program Officer.

Position Summary

SSN is seeking a qualified, experienced, skilled, and competent female professional for the position of Program Officer to lead and oversee the implementation of the Second Home Program.

The ideal candidate will be a creative, dynamic, proactive, results-oriented, and enthusiastic professional who is committed to the holistic development, learning, and well-being of children and young people.

The Program Officer will be responsible for the overall management and operation of the Second Home Program, including program coordination, student engagement, training and facilitation, networking, basic administrative and financial works, and coordination with schools and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research, networking, and awareness-raising activities with schools, stakeholders, communities, and local government.

  • Enroll members in the Second Home Program in accordance with established eligibility criteria and maintain an updated database and profile of members.

  • Assess needs and plan, organize, and facilitate training sessions, tuition classes, counselling, social events, and other activities.

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation and overall management of the Second Home Program under the guidance of the Executive Director.

  • Coordinate with the Sr. Fellowship Program Officer and partner schools to disseminate information related to the Fellowship Program and support the selection of Fellows.

  • Develop and provide relevant content, stories, and case studies for SSN’s social media and communication activities.

  • Carry out administrative and basic financial responsibilities related to the Second Home Program.

  • Perform other relevant duties and responsibilities as assigned by the organization.

Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably a Master’s degree, in Management, Social Work, Development Studies, or another relevant field from a recognized university.

  • At least two years of relevant work experience in a similar field.

  • Experience in teaching and/or training will be an advantage.

Required Skills

  • Strong program management and operational skills.

  • Good training, facilitation, and presentation skills.

  • Strong networking, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to conduct basic research and facilitate meaningful community engagement.

  • Good command of both spoken and written English and Nepali.

  • Good report-writing skills.

  • Good information technology (IT) skills.

  • Ability to effectively manage and engage with diverse groups of students.

  • Understanding of child-friendly learning environments and child safeguarding principles.

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

  • Strong commitment to the learning, development, and well-being of children and young people.

Location

The position is based in Salleri, Solukhumbu, with frequent visits to project sites as and when required.
