The Role:

As a Program Officer (PO), you will support and strengthen iProbono's activities in Nepal. You will oversee the implementation of ongoing activities and develop new ones in line with iProbono’s program strategy and broader vision. You will be based out of iProbono’s partner organisation in Nepal and serve as a bridge between the two organisations. You will report to the Senior Program Manager - South Asia (SPM-SA), working closely with the South Asia Programs Team (SA-PT).

You will have a strong commitment to social justice, access to justice, and human rights values. As a qualified lawyer, you will have high personal and professional integrity and trustworthiness.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement Nepal activities in line with iProbono’s vision, mission, and objectives.
  • Develop new activities and further our program in Nepal.
  • Coordinate with iProbono’s Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights Fellows and the Advisor to the Fellowship as necessary.
  • Manage and strengthen relationships with existing partners and stakeholders and identify and develop new ones, as required.
  • Stay informed of relevant issues and assist in research and advocacy activities. 
  • Work with affiliated lawyers in ongoing cases and provide support as required.
  • Assist in the development of new litigation cases.
  • Assist with data collection, project monitoring and documentation.
  • Prepare memoranda of understanding, job descriptions, and terms of reference when required.
  • Provide necessary support in organising local events, meetings, consultations and workshops.
  • Represent iProbono in Nepal and at relevant events and forums. 
  • Ensure effective program reporting in coordination with SA-PT.
  • Coordinate and work with iProbono’s Research and Impact Director to ensure monitoring and analysis of programs.
  • Coordinate and work with iProbono’s global team on cross-jurisdictional projects.
  • Coordinate with and support our global communications team with relevant materials as necessary.
  • Work on any other tasks assigned by iProbono’s Chief Executive Officer or SPM-SA.

Skills and Experience:

  • LL.B. degree with 2-4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Registered with the Nepal Bar Association. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of court procedure, contemporary human rights issues, economic, social and cultural rights, and the CSOs landscape in Nepal. 
  • Excellent drafting skills in Nepali and English, strong legal research skills, and understanding of human rights law. Nepali typing skills are mandatory. 
  • Ability to plan and deliver training and workshops. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English & Nepali.
  • Good planning, supervising, and program development and management skills.
  • Ability to interact and develop contacts with key stakeholders, including civil society organisations, legislators and legal service providers.
  • High level of proficiency with MS Office and Google Workplace Suite. Efficient in using Wrike/Slack and other database management systems.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team.
  • Ability to travel, if required.
