People Promote Center (PPC), Dhanusha is a nonprofit, non-government, and nonpolitical Humanitarian development organization of Madhesh Province. It is registered in Dhanusha and is affiliated with Social Welfare Council, Nepal. The core working themes of the organization are education, WASH, DRR, Health, governance and advocacy and gender issues. The organization's target groups include children, girls, adolescents, women, youth, and people with disability and other marginalized groups. The organization has been working with development organizations (I/NGOs), private sectors and local governments. To implement its current project called “Community Engagement and Social Mobilization for Modelling Social & Behaviour change and climate action”, PPC is looking for qualified, dynamic and self-motivated Nepali citizens for the following positions.

Program Coordinator – DRR, Emergency Preparedness & Social Behaviour Change

Location:- Durga Bhagwati Rural Municipality, Rautahat, Madhesh Province, Nepal

Contract Type: Full-time (with field travel as required)

Duration: One year

Education: Master's degree in Disaster Risk Management, Social science, Public Policy, Environmental Science, Development Studies, or related field. 

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in DRR, emergency preparedness, community engagement, and/or climate change adaptation.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating and working with government agencies and working in multi-stakeholder settings.
  • Prior experience in Climate action, DRR and social and behavior change programming, particularly with children and youth, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with national and provincial DRR frameworks in Nepal.

Purpose: The Program Coordinator will coordinate and implement disaster risk reduction (DRR), emergency preparedness, and SBC initiatives in Madhesh Province. S/he will support the establishment and strengthening of inter-cluster coordination mechanisms at the provincial level, promote child- and youth-centered early warning systems, and lead engagement with local governments and communities to adopt climate-smart and resilience-building practices.

Responsibility

A. Inter-Cluster Coordination and Emergency Preparedness

  • Facilitate and strengthen the inter-cluster coordination mechanism for DRR and emergency preparedness at palika and provincial level.
  • Orientation on humanitarian cluster system / approach, sphere standards and principals to palika and provincial stakeholders.
  • Support inter-cluster coordination meeting.

B. Child-Friendly Early Warning and CCRI-DRM Implementation

  • Support the rollout of the Children’s Climate Risk Index and Disaster Risk Management (CCRI-DRM) Model in targeted local governments.
  • Facilitate establishment and/or strengthening of child-friendly early warning systems (EWS) in coordination with local disaster management committees (LDMCs), schools, and ward offices.
  • Engage schools, teachers, children, and youth groups in preparedness planning and community-based disaster risk management (CBDRM) efforts.

C. Social and Behaviour Change for Climate Action

  • Design and implement youth- and child-led SBC initiatives that promote climate-resilient behavior and community preparedness.
  • Mobilize local youth clubs, eco-clubs, school networks, and child clubs to co-create climate-smart messages and practices.
  • Facilitate dialogue platforms and awareness campaigns to foster positive social norms around environmental protection, disaster risk reduction, and resilience.

D. Capacity Building and Technical Support

  • Organize and orientation sessions for various stakeholders.

E. Monitoring, Documentation, and Reporting

  • Monitor program implementation, track progress against indicators, and provide regular updates and reports.
  • Document good practices, case studies, and lessons learned to inform policy and programming. 
  • Ensure timely submission of donor and government reports, data collection tools, and success stories.

Skills and competencies required:

Strong coordination, communication, facilitation, and networking skills.Proven project management and organizational skills. Excellent communication (written and verbal) in Nepali and English; knowledge of local languages in Madhesh (Maithili, Bhojpuri) is an asset. Ability to work independently in a diverse team.Proficient in MS Office.
