Introduction:

Plant Technician is responsible to support the DIO (Nepal) mission by operating and maintaining the mechanical and electrical plants such as hot water boilers, borehole, sewage treatment, water treatment plant and water heating plant etc.

The civilian employees are critical assets to HQ BGN, as they collectively contribute towards organisational mission for Gurkha Recruitment to the British Army and Gurkha Contingent

This position is advertised at 40 hours per week.

Job description:

  • Operate and maintain all fixed electrical and mechanical plants in the BGP estate, example, water treatment plant and distribution equipment, boiler, softener plant, swimming pool plant, and water heating plant installed at different locations in the estate.
  • Operate and maintain Sewage Treatment Plants and Boreholes.
  • Carry out inspection, service, adjust and overhaul all components of the system in Heating Hot and Cold Water System for the plants of area of responsibility in accordance with L8:2000 Regulations (Control of legionella bacteria in water system) and UK Water Supply Regulations, as amended. Carry out flushing of little used water outlets laydown in flushing regime.
  • Co-ordinate and record external testing of drinking and swimming pool water.
  • Carry out basic chemical testing of drinking and swimming pool water such as chlorine, pH, cyanuric acid, alkalinity, hardness, & temperature and maintain accurate records.
  • Take the relevant immediate action (laid down in the BGN water safety plan) if the max / min chemical parameters of the drinking water supply are breached.
  • Maintain and record the drinking water storage level and report to the line manager if the water level is near the minimum level.
  • Operate Godwin pump when required.
  • Maintain adequate fuel levels for boiler plant.
  • Maintain Operating Logbooks for all fixed electrical and mechanical plant.
  • Update the relevant Planned Maintenance Logbooks as per Schedule ‘C’ 005 as required.
  • Work in hazardous area where presence of chlorine, acid and other hazardous chemicals are.
  • Support line management in their tasks, including deputising for them when required.
  • Any other tasks commensurate with grade and competence, as directed by line management.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of proven experience and training in the operation of a Water Treatment Plant or be able to demonstrate competence as a Plant Operator.

Qualification:

  • Academic – Minimum SLC/SEE education
  • CTVET’s level II in relevant technical disciplines such as plumbing etc.
  • Technical
    • Have a good working knowledge of water treatment and testing.  
    • Have a good working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a water heating plant (Boiler Plant).  
    • Be capable of conducting a wide range of chemical tests on water samples, using a Palin test kit.
  • English – Good Written and Spoken
  • Nepali – Good Written and Spoken

  • Salary 66,242.00 NPR per month (Permanent).
  • Gratuity after completing 3 years’ service.
