Salary Range: NPR 55,000-65,000 per month

KS practices participatory decision making and co-designing by bringing together partners, collaborators and end users. KS uses Design Thinking (DT) and Human Centered Design (HCD) as its core project design and management methodology. These operational models are proven by academic literature and experience to lead to more innovative ideas and provide meaningful voice to the intended end-users. To operationalize co-creation, KS works through participatory, collaborative and iterative methods to identify potential solutions. In strengthening this approach, KS also works on building communities of practice which are created deliberately with the goal of gaining, sharing and implementing knowledge to innovate locally and make a global impact.

About the Kheldai Sikdai Project:

Kheldai Sikdai Project led by Karkhana Samuha, aims to enable children to experience learning through play and engineering on a daily basis. The project seeks to make engaging, hands-on learning a regular part of classroom experiences in schools with limited resources, ensuring that learning remains joyful, actively engaging, iterative, meaningful and socially interactive.

Job Overview:

The Learning Resource Designer will play a key role in designing and developing engaging, age appropriate, and curriculum-aligned courses and learning materials that support play-based learning inside the classroom.

This full-time position requires creativity, instructional design skills, and a deep understanding of child-centered pedagogies. The Designer will collaborate with curriculum experts, teacher trainer, and the implementation team to prototype, test, and refine lesson modules for classroom delivery in resource-limited contexts.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design and Development of Play-Based Courses 30%

  • Develop thematic course modules rooted in the principles of learning through play for Grades 4 to 8.
  • Create lesson plans, activity guides, and teacher support materials that are interactive, hands-on, and inclusive.
  • Ensure content is aligned with Nepal’s national curriculum and integrates interdisciplinary learning.
  • Incorporate local contexts, materials, and culturally relevant examples into the design process.

2. Ideation and Prototyping 30%

  • Facilitate and participate in regular brainstorming and co-design sessions with teachers, facilitators, and the project team.
  • Prototype and test classroom activities and revise designs based on field feedback and student engagement levels.
  • Document iterations and learning from each design cycle for continuous improvement.

3. Field Testing and Collaboration 20%

  • Conduct regular school visits within the Kathmandu Valley to test newly developed lessons and gather feedback from students and teachers.
  • Join occasional field visits to Madhesh alongside the implementing team, where the resources are being piloted and scaled.
  • Use field observations to refine instructional materials and ensure contextual relevance.

4. Capacity Building and Support 10%

  • Support the learning resource design team through peer-learning and review sessions.
  • Share insights and tools to integrate play-based pedagogies into lesson planning with the wider team.

5. Support in Digital Adaptation 5%

  • Work with the team to convert print-based materials into digital-friendly formats where needed.
  • Support in ideating ways to use multimedia, videos, or interactive elements in teacher training or lesson delivery (especially where technology is feasible).

6. Documentation and Reporting 5%

  • Maintain a structured repository of lesson plans, activity sheets, and resource materials.
  • Prepare brief progress updates, reflection notes, and design documentation for internal sharing and reporting.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Development Studies, or a relevant field.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in creating hands-on learning resources, or interactive lessons.
  • Strong understanding of child-centered pedagogies and/or play-based learning approaches.
  • Experience working in school education settings, especially with public schools or low-resource contexts.
  • Comfort with iterative design and openness to learning from testing and feedback.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in both English and Nepali (verbal and written).
  • Basic video creation skills and use of video making tools is required.
  • Graphic design skills are an added advantage..

Key Competencies:

  • Proven ability to coordinate complex projects and support end-to-end project delivery.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience in multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Basic knowledge of financial and resource management principles, particularly in donor-funded settings.
  • Familiarity with monitoring, evaluation, and reporting tools and frameworks.
  • Collaborative team player with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Understanding of risk management and quality assurance practices.
  • Interest in innovation and knowledge sharing to improve project outcomes.
  • Capacity to manage multiple priorities and adapt to dynamic project needs.
