Human Practice Foundation (HPF), a Danish NGO, has been working in Nepal since 2017 and in Kenya since 2018 to improve the quality of education through school infrastructure development, Learning improvement, and Economic empowerment.

Currently, we are seeking competent, experienced, committed, and dynamic Nepalese candidates for the following position to implement our learning improvement program. 

Position: Learning Officer - 2

Location: Rural Municipalities of Tapleujung District

Reporting To: Learning Manager

Duration: Initially until Dec 2026, with a high possibility of extension

Job Scope: The job holder is responsible for working in a team under the leadership of the Learning Manager, and managing the learning project focused on improving the learning, vocational skills of the students and ensuring sustainability aspects of the project. The incumbent has to work with the leader schools through which the project aims to reach out to the other schools in the surrounding areas. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teachers in effective lesson planning, classroom management, assessment, use of teaching and learning materials, peer observation, mentoring, and reflective teaching practices. 
  • Introduce peer tutoring and mentoring within the school or across the schools to encourage collaborative learning, establishing subject departments. 
  • Encourage student participation in ECAs/CCAs to promote discipline, values, creativity, critical thinking, and so on. 
  • Strengthen the system of school governance, working closely with the HT, teachers, community, and other relevant stakeholders. 
  • Build the leadership capacity of Head teachers, SMC/PTA for a transparent and accountable governance system, encouraging and ensuring regular academic and governance review meetings.
  • Empower SMCs/PTAs for the good governance of schools and lead by example. 
  • Facilitate the preparation of school improvement plans with clear milestones and measurable outcomes. 
  • Facilitate and support the schools for the proper functionality of different committees and clubs. 
  • Increase parental engagement in the schools through school-based/community-based parenting education sessions.
  • Promote safe, inclusive, and child-friendly learning environments.
  • Align school initiatives with the local government education plan, promoting community ownership and sustainability. 
  • Support schools to identity and conduct different vocational-skill development training for the students. 
  • Document best practices, innovations, and success stories for the modal schools.
  • Facilitate exposure visits and learning exchanges for other schools. 
  • Ensure model schools become learning hubs for other schools.
  • Liaise with the local government for the effective implementation of the program, sustainability, and reasonable funding for the overall development of the schools.

Knowledge and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in education with major in English subject (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in education/learning improvement projects/program. Experience in vocational training-skill development training will be an additional asset.
  • Strong understanding of Nepal’s education system and rural education context.
  • Experience in ICT integration in Nepal and teachers’ professional development.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong facilitation, coaching and mentoring skills with communication and coordination skills
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers, school leadership, communities, and government stakeholders
  • Strong planning, monitoring, and reporting skills
  • Willingness to travel and work in rural areas.
