Consultancy to conduct a research study on the Mobility of Nepali Migrant Workers to Europe

Background and Context

On behalf of the Federal German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ is implementing the global program “Shaping Development-Oriented Migration” (German translation: Migration entwicklungspolitisch gestalten, MEG). MEG assists partner countries in leveraging the benefits of regular migration and engaging diaspora for sustainable development. The program is active in up to 14 partner countries around the globe, including Nepal. It contributes towards implementing the Global Compact for Migration (GCM) and is part of a comprehensive approach to migration and development.

MEG has four priority areas or outcomes in Nepal: 1) regular labor migration and regional migration; 2) diaspora cooperation; 3) mitigating precarious situations and enhancing the protection of migrants; and 4) global partnerships. As part of outcome 1, regular labor migration and regional migration, MEG aims to strengthen the capacities of relevant state and non-state actors in partner countries to help achieve the goals of the GCM, including Objective 6—facilitate fair and ethical recruitment and safeguard conditions that ensure decent work, for which Nepal is a champion country. 

To that end, MEG is commissioning a research study on the mobility of Nepali migrant workers to Europe in order to augment knowledge and awareness of migration trends and patterns as well as narratives of this migration corridor. 

MEG is soliciting proposals/bids from interested companies for the services.

Eligibility Criteria:

Interested organizations must meet the following requirements:

• Have a PAN/VAT certificate as well as the latest tax clearance certificate.
• Have five (5) years of demonstrated experience in conducting research studies in migration, labor mobility, governance, or related fields.

The application should include: A copy of the VAT/PAN Certificate, the latest tax clearance and company profile having 5 years of experience as mentioned under the eligibility criteria.

Should you be interested in implementing the tasks in accordance with the Annex 3 Terms of Reference, we request you to submit an electronic bid consisting of technical and financial proposals. The bid should be submitted in English only and must reach GIZ by 25.05.2026, 11:59 PM  via NP_Quotation@giz.de.
