Lumanti Support Group for Shelter is a non-government organisation dedicated to the alleviation of urban poverty in Nepal through the improvement of shelter conditions. At Lumanti, shelter means the whole living environment, therefore, Lumanti's activities are wide-ranging. They include shelter upgrades, micro-finance, education and children's programmes, good governance, gender equity and advocacy. Lumanti means "memory" in the Newari language. The organization was established in 1993 in the memory of Ramesh Manandhar who died in a plane crash in 1992. Ramesh was a driving force behind moves in the early 1990's to raise awareness about urban poverty and shelter conditions.

Background

Lumanti Support Group for Shelter, a non-government organization actively contributing to the improvement of the living conditions of low-income people in Nepal through improved shelter, is currently seeking applications from qualified Nepalese citizens for the post of Internal Audit and Compliance Officer for Resilient Communities through Vulnerable Earthquake Recovery (ReCoVER)

ReCoVER is a CRS-led multisectoral recovery project that will support 6,240 most vulnerable families affected by the 2015 earthquake. Using a targeted, tailored approach to reconstruction, ReCoVER will assist 4,000 vulnerable families in the earthquake affected districts of Nepal to build back safer homes. The project will support additional families with water supply and livelihood improvement activities to ensure that a total of 6,240 families, or 31,200 individuals, survive and thrive in their homes and communities. Lumanti Support Group for Shelter, as a consortium partner in ReCoVER, is implementing the shelter component across Kaski, Tanahun, Lamjung, Makawanpur and Chitwan.

Responsibilities 

  • Identify and assess the risk associated with project, plan for reducing such risks through monitoring, supporting and effective implementation of internal control system. 
  • Help in practicing the best practices aligned with Lumanti Policy, CRS requirements and government requirements in field offices of respective cluster.
  • Plan and implement periodic internal audits of all field offices of respective cluster. 
  • Provide correct and accurate reports and share the findings to the concerned persons.
  • Conduct ad hoc investigations on identified risks or issues.
  • Ensure that all recordings and postings of field offices are correctly recorded in to the accounting system, for the reporting month with proper documentation. 
  • Ensure the list of assets procured or transferred for project in field office is updated.
  • Compile and maintain the documents of field offices.
  • Regular follow-up on the issues for the improvements in field offices. 
  • Physical verification of stocks and assets.
  • Provide orientation on financial and tax issues as applicable. 
  • Coordinate with local staffs of Lumanti and CRS on related issues as required.
  • Additional responsibilities can be added as per the requirement.

KEY COMPETENCIES:

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in relevant field or semi qualified in CA or ACCA equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years’ work experience especially in auditing of non-profit organization
  • Gender sensitive
  • Analytical thinker with strong conceptual and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in the team and as an individual. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and ready to work long hours if required 
  • Able to travel frequently in remote places as required.
  • Fluency in using office package and has high proficiency especially in excel.
  • Priority will be given to candidates with license of two wheelers.

Duty Station: The project areas are categorized into two clusters based on geographical areas. Cluster 1 includes Kaski, Tanahun, Lamjung whereas Cluster 2 includes Makwanpur and Chitwan. This position is field based position and is responsible for allocated cluster. 

Travel: This position can expect up to 40% travel in the field. Travel may include trekking long distances to remote areas and staying in villages. Travel in the field will be required to monitor project activities, verification and assurance of documentation.
