The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking qualified Nepali Nationals for the following position based in Damak.

Position Title:HIV/TB Counsellor - 1 position

Classification:Grade - 5

Type of Contract:Special, six months with possibility of extension

General Functions:

Under the  overall supervision of the Chief Migration Health Physician and Direct Supervision of the Public Health Coordinator, the successful candidate will provide counselling and health educations support to the Resettlement Health Assessment Programmes. In particular, he/she will:

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-HIV test group counselling to refugees who undergo HIV test.
  • Provide group education for refugees about health assessment procedures and its requirements.
  • Obtain the signature of refugees in the consent form of HIV test.
  • Provide post HIV test individual counselling for HIV positive cases.
  • Prepare the required documents of HIV positive case for waiver application and final counselling by panel physician 
  • Conduct group health education for refugees about TB disease and IOM procedures for TB diagnostics and treatment.
  • Provide to refugees with suspected TB information about sputum collection and waiting period for results of microbiological testing; if necessary, explain microbiological testing procedures in simple terms. 
  • Conduct individual counselling for active TB cases who need TB treatment. Support DOT nurses and Doctors in regular counselling of TB patients on treatment.
  • Identify patients on TB treatment who may need evaluation and counselling by a mental health specialist and inform Health Assessment Processing Officer and Chief Migration Health Physician.
  • Support medical team in health education during any infectious disease outbreak in the camp. 
  • Provide counselling to the refugees on vaccinations, 
  • Provide support to the mental health specialist for follow up and treatment of the refugees with mental conditions.
  • Undertake any other relevant duties if necessary

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor degree in social sciences, psychology or nursing with certificate in counselling is a must.
  • At least five years of working experience.
  • High level of integrity. Ability to work with various clients under pressure.
  • Understanding of local conditions and refugees’ needs is an advantage.
  • Previous experience with TB and HIV counseling and psycho-social support is an advantage.
