Head Representative / Director of the Nepal office in Kathmandu

This role includes the representation of AWO International as well as the coordination and management of all projects in Nepal and the region of South Asia.

AWO is a more than 100 years old German welfare organization and has been active as well in development cooperation and humanitarian action for more than 50 years. AWO International works with local and regional partner organizations and follows a participatory approach.

Your responsibilities:

  • Overall management of the Nepal office
  • Overall responsibility for sustainable project planning and implementation
  • Financial and content-related management of development cooperation and humanitarian action projects
  • Representation of AWO International vis-à-vis governmental and non- governmental institutions in the region
  • Strategic regional development
  • Technical and administrative supervision of national staff
  • Acquisition of funds and ensuring compliance requirements of AWO Int. and donors

We expect from you:

  • Good knowledge of the region as well as Nepali, and ideally Hindi and/or Bengali / or other regional language skills with excellent English writing and communications skills
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in development cooperation and humanitarian action, ideally in German I/NGOs or with German institutional and private donors (BMZ, ADH, etc.)
  • An excellent command of methods and instruments of project management (incl. results-based project monitoring)
  • Extensive experience in working with local partner NGOs in the project region
  • Solid team management and interpersonal skills
  • Sound analytical, judgment and decision-making skills
  • Very good knowledge in the management of public and private funds
  • Sound experience in the administrative and financial implementation of projects
  • A Master's degree in a relevant technical field with applied background ideally in the following sectors: migration, anti-human trafficking, climate change adaptation, food security, agri-production/irrigation, relief, recovery and disaster risk reduction
  • A keen interest in current development policy debates
  • High physical and mental resilience
  • Adherence to the values and principles of AWO International
