BACKGROUND
USAID Agricultural Inputs is a five-year USAID-funded Feed the Future (FTF) activity in Nepal. The aim of USAID Agricultural Inputs is to increase the availability, accessibility, and use of agricultural inputs and technology to improve Nepal’s agricultural productivity. The Activity is implemented by Winrock International in collaboration with five international and local organizations.
USAID Agricultural Inputs will enable lead firms, agrovets, input suppliers, local machinery service providers, and Government of Nepal (GON) change agents and farmers to increase productivity, input supply chain efficiency, market system competitiveness, and strengthen the enabling environment in a way that equitably addresses the needs of women, youth, and members of marginalized groups. USAID Agricultural Inputs will benefit 200,000 farmers in the USAID Feed the Future (FTF) zone of influence.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Trainee will gain knowledge of the agricultural inputs sector in Nepal and associated GESI issues. The trainee will work closely with GESI Director and Sr. GESI Manager to conduct GESI research, prepare reports, document GESI learnings and maintain a GESI grants database for timely reporting. The trainee will be provided with training on GESI issues as pertaining to agricultural inputs and will be supported to learn, grow and effectively contribute to team requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Conduct GESI research as guided by supervisor.
- Support the USAID Agricultural Inputs GESI team to assess grants from GESI lens and identify GESI gaps and opportunities for inclusion in grants packages.
- Synthesize and draft GESI related write ups, reports and briefs, presentations, etc.
- Assist GESI and technical teams to coordinate tasks, track progress, and maintain GESI grants tracking database.
- Draft results-oriented notes and meeting minutes.
- Support GESI Director to coordinate, monitor, track and follow up on workflow and priorities.
- Provide administrative support as needed and perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor or as initiated by the Trainee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Business, Economics, or Agribusiness. Preferred Master’s degree in the relevant field.
- Work experience in GESI, research, and/or report writing will be a plus.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft office package including Word and Excel.
- Report writing skills.
- Written and verbal proficiency in Nepali and English language. Ability to speak in the local dialects USAID Agricultural Inputs working area will be an added advantage.
- Willing to travel to the field.
- Agility and learning attitude.
DURATION, LOCATION AND REPORTING
The duration of the traineeship will be for six months starting on or about mid -October 2024. The GESI Trainee will be based in Kathmandu and report to GESI Director. S/he will require travel to the working area as needed.
FACILITIES/UTILITIES, STIPEND AND LOGISTICS:
The trainee selected will be expected to work from USAID Agricultural Inputs Kathmandu Office. Any costs associated with in-country travel will be covered by USAID Agricultural Inputs. Per diem, including lodging and meals and incidentals (M&IE), will be reimbursed for applicable number of travel days as per USAID Agricultural Inputs policies.
The selected trainee will be provided with a monthly stipend of NPR 26,000 (excluding applicable taxes) during the traineeship. Additional benefits include paid leave, scheduled holidays, insurance coverage for medical and accidental incidents.
