KOSHISH, established in 2008, is a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting mental health and psychosocial well-being in Nepal. Embracing the spirit of "NOTHING ABOUT US WITHOUT US," KOSHISH advocates for the inclusion and meaningful participation of individuals with mental health conditions and psychosocial disabilities. KOSHISH actively engages in community-based mental health programs, awareness campaigns, and advocacy efforts. Our overarching goal is to mainstream mental health within the broader health system and societal domains, such as social protection, education, inclusion, and employment.
Job Summary
The fundraising coordinator will be responsible for leading the development and execution of the organization's fundraising strategy, including setting targets and action plans, assessing organizational capacity, and creating fundraising materials. They will identify and pursue potential funding opportunities, develop and submit proposals, and engage donors through strategic campaigns. Additionally, the fundraising coordinator will maintain comprehensive documentation of fundraising data and collaborate on budgeting and reporting.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Organizational development in fundraising
- Assess the current fundraising strategy of the organization to ensure it incorporates inclusive policies and procedures that align with ethical fundraising practices, making adjustments as necessary to uphold these standards.
- Develop specific fundraising outputs and targets that are in harmony with the organization's strategic documents. This should include creating a SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) action plan to effectively implement the fundraising strategy.
- Perform a thorough capacity assessment of the organization to identify strengths and weaknesses and subsequently create a comprehensive capacity statement that accurately reflects the organization's capabilities.
- Work closely with the Executive Director, as well as the program and communication units, to prepare essential documents, brochures, and materials that will support fundraising efforts.
- Deliver targeted training sessions on fundraising and proposal development to staff members, aimed at enhancing the organization's overall fundraising capacity and effectiveness.
- Engage with the senior management team to ensure that the organization is fully equipped to meet all necessary requirements set forth by potential partner agencies, thereby increasing the likelihood of successful collaborations.
2. Proposal development and grant management:
- Explore Identify potential funding agencies at national, regional, and international levels within priority areas and locations for KOSHISH by reviewing their strategies and evaluating their alignment with KOSHISH's vision and mission.
- Conduct thorough scanning of the CFP/RFP through various sources and work diligently to ensure high-quality proposals for competitive bidding on behalf of the organization.
- Investigate potential partners, create funding project proposals, and submit them to as many relevant organizations, foundations, and philanthropists as possible within the specified timeframe.
- Engage in the planning and coordination of innovative, strategic, and impactful appeals, campaigns, and activities to attract new and existing donors, both online and in-person, in close collaboration with the communication unit.
- Knowledge Management:
- Oversee the accurate documentation and record keeping of fundraising data including information of all the projects, proposals and documents, categorized based on the themes that the organization is working on both online and offline..
- Ensure that all strategic documents are comprehensively understood, recorded, effectively reported, and securely stored.
3. Planning, Budgeting and Reporting:
- Collaborate with the senior management team in development, review, and consolidation of comprehensive fundraising plans and budgets, including setting annual fundraising targets that align with the organizational strategy to secure grants.
- Support the finance unit by contributing to the development of project budgets in close coordination with the partners.
- Prepare quarterly performance report and fundraising annual report highlighting achievement of targets, challenges, learning, collaborations and way forward.
4. Communication and visibility:
- Assist in the creation of content and materials aimed at fundraising for the organization, in partnership with the communication unit.
- Assist in the production or development of audio/visual or graphic materials to enhance the organization's branding and visibility.
5. Job Specification
- Master’s degree in Humanities, Public Health, Social Work, Development Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum five years of progressive experience in fundraising, communication partnership development, proposal writing and project development etc.
- Experience of working with I/NGOs with good experience of drafting proposals and concept notes.
- Good understanding of Core Humanitarian Standards.
- Understanding of national/international donors’ requirements and ability to build strong relationship both internally and externally.
- Ability to work independently, when required.
- Excellent communication skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) in both Nepali and English.
- Excellent presentation, training/meeting facilitation and report writing skills.
- Good networking, communication, and public relations skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and engage in multiple priorities.
- Excellent MS Office (including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) skills with proficient typing skills both in Nepali and English.
Proven experience in mental health, psychosocial support, disability inclusion, or rights-based advocacy is highly desirable.
