Nepal Institute for Urban and Regional Studies (NIURS) is a not-for-profit organization established in 2014 and registered with the government of Nepal. Its objective is to conduct research in urban and regional development issues, generate knowledge and information, conduct trainings and foster international cooperation in town, cities and regional planning. NIURS provides a platform for experts, professionals, policy makers and academicians to share their knowledge and experiences. It helps build public opinion on contemporary economic, social and technical issues affecting urban development.

Its objective is to conduct research in urban and regional development issues, generate knowledge and information, conduct training, and foster international cooperation in town, cities and regional planning. NIURS provides a platform for experts, professionals, policymakers, and academicians to share their knowledge and experiences. It helps build public opinion on contemporary economic, social, and technical issues affecting urban development.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Oversee the organization's overall operation. This includes realizing the strategic direction provided by the Board and developing, and implementing policies and procedures, and overseeing the day-to-day operations including administrative management, procurement, hiring, and managing experts, and staff.
- Manage the organization's finances. This includes developing and managing the budget, ensuring accurate and up-to-date financial records, audit and complying with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Update the legal standing of institute and timely comply government procedures.
- Call board meetings as per Board Chair’s instructions, prepare minutes and necessary follow-ups/execution of decisions of the board, keep the Board and Board members regularly updated on the institutional status
- Prepare annual plan, annual calendar, and detailed action plan to meet Institute’s stated goals and objectives to materialize board's decision.
- Represent the Institute formal meetings with prospective funding agencies, government agencies, national and international development partners, and civil society as well as private sector agencies.
- Maintain regular communications with partners, vendors, partners, and other stakeholders of the institute and expand the professional network and public relations.
- Plan and organize seminar, webinar, workshops, training etc and ensure institute’s regular publications
- Proactively identify emerging relevant issues and opportunities at the national and international level. Prepare proposals and approach for new project with international and national agencies in coordination with selected board members.
- Take initiative independently and strengthen network with partner organizations and stakeholders to enhance institute’s growth.
- Plan and manage projects in close collaboration with respective team leaders or principal investigators.
- Provide technical input in project as per requirement and applicability of project/activities.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of master’s degree in any relevant discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience. Experience in research and development, program management, governance and public policy is preferred.
- Knowledge and sensitivity of issues related to urban planning and governance is preferred.
- Good leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Must be able to effectively manage a team, develop and implement strategic plans, and raise funds.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in Nepali and English language.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage professional as well as administrative staff of the Institute.
Service Period:
The tenure of the executive director will be of two years with possibility of extension. The first six months will be considered as probation period.
Remuneration:
The starting salary of the Executive Director will range from NPR. 70,000 to 90,000 per month depending on qualification and experience. The remuneration is inclusive of all applicable government taxes. The other benefits will be as per institutional rule.
