TPO Nepal is conducting a research project titled Parental Depression and Its Impact on Parental and Child Nutrition in Nepal: A Mixed-Methods Study. The study explores how maternal and paternal depression influence dietary diversity, nutritional outcomes, and caregiving in households with children under five. Using a mixed-methods approach-combining PHQ-9 screening, dietary recall, anthropometry, and qualitative interviews-it seeks to uncover the pathways linking depression with nutrition and provide evidence to inform culturally responsive interventions in Nepal. TPO Nepal seeks competent, committed, and result-oriented candidates for the short-term position of Consultant Research Assistant.

Major responsibilities:
The Consultant Research Assistants will be responsible for the following duties:
- Coordinate with various community stakeholders and organizations for research activities.
- Coordinate with research participants for data collection.
- Implement research activities, including participant recruitment, household surveys, and qualitative interviews (FGDs and KIIs) with participants and family members.
- Conduct anthropometric measurements (height, weight) using SECA scales and Shorr boards for accurate assessment of child nutritional status and maternal BMI.
- Regularly debrief and share experiences and learnings from the tool administration with the supervisor.
- Debrief regularly with the supervisor, sharing experiences, challenges, and learnings from tool administration.
- Provide regular and timely progress updates to the supervisor.
- Transcribe qualitative interviews as required.
- Participate in other project activities as assigned by the organization.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- At least Bachelor’s degree in the field of psychology, nursing, public health, population health, anthropology, epidemiology, global health or related field.
- Flexible to work beyond office hours when required.
- Good command of spoken Nepali languages.
- Prior experience in conducting surveys using KOBO and conducting anthropometric measurements would be an added advantage.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Willingness to travel frequently to project sites and conduct fieldwork in rural communities.
- Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in research data collection, including household surveys, mental health assessment tools, and qualitative methods (FGDs, KIIs).
