One Heart Worldwide (OHW) is an International Non-Governmental Organization that has been working in the area of Maternal and Neonatal Health (MNH) since 2011. OHW works with local communities and local health service providers to develop a culturally appropriate Network of Safety around mothers and infants, by raising awareness, teaching good practices, and distributing essential equipment to ensure that mothers and infants survive delivery and the first months of life.

One Heart Worldwide (OHW) and Laerdal Global Health (LGH) have partnered to reach the mission of Helping Save lives by improving the quality of the healthcare workforce through simulation-based programs in Nepal. In the partnership, OHW is also responsible for the administrative and people operations.
LGH, in collaboration with Ariadne Labs, a joint center for health systems innovation at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health, is dedicated to driving scalable solutions for better care at critical moments in people’s lives everywhere. Ariadne Labs currently has programs that span the spectrum of health care, including childbirth, surgery, primary care, and serious illness.
Project Overview
LGH and Ariadne Labs will implement TeamBirth, a patient-centered care quality improvement model, in maternal and newborn care to ensure respectful maternity care in Nepal. TeamBirth is an industry-standard process designed to improve communication, teamwork, and shared decision-making throughout the birthing process, giving every person a chance at a safe, dignified childbirth experience.

Position: Consultant Program Officer
The Consultant Program Officer will serve as the primary liaison between the Ariadne Labs Team and hospital teams in Nepal to provide support in designing, testing, and delivering effective quality improvement solutions and implementation plans to meet the needs of end users.
Duty Station: Kathmandu
Duration: 9 months
Workload: 22 Hours (Per Week)
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of quality improvement solutions in Nepal, ensuring alignment with project as well as organizational objectives and strategies.
- Provide technical expertise and support to partners, healthcare professionals, and educators, institutions in the effective utilization of the solution set-up, training and methodologies.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops to build capacity and enhance understanding of solution tools, behaviors, and implementation strategies
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and adapt tools and processes to meet the specific needs of the Nepalese healthcare system and institutions.
- Facilitate information exchange and ensure alignment between Ariadne teams and site teams on project goals and timelines.
- Oversee and support data collection processes in collaboration with hospital teams, addressing and resolving any related issues.
- Assist in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the solution, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing necessary changes.
- Contribute to evidence generation through research and documentation of the solution.
- Foster strong relationships with local partners and stakeholders, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Work closely with project team members and support in the overall program management, including administrative and financial reporting as per the need.
- Maintain close and effective coordination with team members from Ariadne Labs, LGH, government stakeholders, local professional societies, external development partners, clinical experts, and healthcare institutions.
- Represent the DDI Team professionally in all interactions.
This role involves capacity-building activities, participating in training sessions, and supporting data collection and evaluation activities. Using best practices from quality improvement and implementation, this role will work with our programs and project teams to bring a solution to practice.
Professional and Educational Requirements:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Midwifery, Medicine or relevant health care field with at least 3 years of experience.
- 1-2 years plus of direct experience in clinical work, particularly experience in labor and delivery and/or maternal and child health.
- Proven experience in quality improvement, change management, or healthcare implementation, including leading and facilitating complex quality improvement initiatives and training sessions for clinicians. Experience with managing concurrent implementation efforts with multiple teams.
- Strong ability to gather, synthesize, and translate stakeholders' needs into actionable recommendations.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and Nepali.
- Strong communication skills, including facilitation and training for multidisciplinary hospital teams, including physicians, nurses, administration, and high-level leadership.
- Ability to work effectively in teams, with government stakeholders and partners, and independently.
- Demonstrate a professional, proactive and respectful attitude and behavior.Flexibility and willingness to travel within Nepal and abroad as required.
