Handicap International Federation (HI) is an independent and impartial aid organization, created in 1982, working across 63 countries. HI works alongside the vulnerable populations, whatever the context, taking action to respond to their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. Present in Nepal since 2000, HI works through a network of local partner organizations in the area of health and physical rehabilitation, inclusive education and resilience including emergency response to improve the living conditions and involvement of the most vulnerable populations in Nepal.
HI Nepal invites applications from the qualified and interested candidates for the following position:
1. Communication Officer - 1 Position
Terms & Conditions: Fixed term contract
Location: Country Office, Kathmandu
The Communication Officer actively contributes to the promotion of HI activities in the country, by directly engaging in content production and media & communication activities, as well as by advising Project staff on how to best promote HI projects to their various audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support projects at HI Nepal for the development of their branding and marking plan as per donor requirements and provide specific assistance to implement the plan
- Be updated on donors’ Visibility and Communication requirements and support project teams to develop communication materials proposed in the project such as leaflets, banners, information & educational and behaviour change communication materials (fact sheets, project briefs), promotional materials, impact documents, case studies and good practices
- Plan, write, edit, translate and publish a variety of communications and other documents including materials for websites, calendar and greeting cards which present a positive image of HI to the general public
- Manage and handle HI Nepal’s social media (including twitter account, facebook etc).
- Proactively develop materials for social networks (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.)
- Develop guidelines, content and communication tools to meet institutional donor visibility requirements
- Work with Country Manager, project team and HI Headquarter communication team to develop monthly newsletters including case studies
- Capacity building of HI’s local partner’s staff on communication and social media guidelines, story documentations.
- Collect, edit and finalize the media related products considering media ethics, national law and regulations for further publishing in relevant media
- Be a contact point for responding to queries from external stakeholders and arranging meetings with external stakeholders in coordination with the team to be involved
- Contribute to the Programme's emergency preparedness plan, engage in humanitarian assessment, information collection during an emergency, be reactive in providing content on HI’s response and manage media requests.
Qualification and Skills:
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication/Journalism/Arts/Media Studies/ Development Studies or related field with at least 3 years of relevant experience in communications, media, journalism preferably in development organizations
- Strong written and spoken communication skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Possesses creative and analytical skills
- Excellent oral and written English and Nepali
- Knowledge and understanding on Disability sector would be added advantage
- Strong interpersonal skills
