Organization Overview

The original Triten Norbutse Monastery was established in the fourteenth century in central Tibet by the great Bönpo Master Shen Nyima Gyaltsen (born 1360), a descendant of the Shen lineage which is the lineage of Buddha Tonpa Shenrab, the founder of the Bön religion. For many centuries Triten Norbutse was one of the four main Bönpo monastic institutions in Tibet which provided a complete Bön cultural and religious education. Since 1988 Triten Norbutse Monastery is re-founded in Nepal. Triten Norbutse Monastery based in Swoyambu, Kathmandu has been providing Bon cultural and religious education since then. Triten is now constructing the traditional medicine school canteen in Kathmandu. Currently Triten Norbutse Institution office is seeking for qualified Nepalese citizen for the position of Site Engineer (Civil).   

Purpose of the position:

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Consultant, Triten technical persons and donor agency, the Site Engineer will be overseeing the sound management of the project including coordinating, consolidating, and ensuring smooth implementation of the project and adherence to design, BoQ and related documents, ensuring timeliness and efficiency in planning, delivery, documentation and reporting. S/he represents Triten to relevant technical meetings with local government and other stakeholders. 

Expected Start Date: 1 July 2022

Probation Period: 3 months

Contract Duration:  30th April 2023

Gross salary per month: 55,000 (Rupees fifty five thousand only)

Main activities of the project is: 

  • Supervision of construction activity   
  • Construction of 1 canteen building
  • Report to the employer’s representative and donor’s representative.

SCOPE OF THE WORK 

General 

Description of the assignment 

  • The Civil Site Engineer shall be an individual, which will provide, on behalf of Triten Norbutse Institution, for quality control and supervision of construction of canteen building at Jarshingpauwa, Shankharapur Municipality of Kathmandu District from the very initial phase of construction, until the final acceptance of the buildings. 
  • The Civil Site Engineer will work cordially with the project management of Triten Norbutse Institution and its representative to facilitate the construction procedure, acting as a communicator and co-ordination mediator between the employer, its representative and the contractors. 
  • The Civil Site Engineer shall be liable for the quality of works. 
  • The Civil Site Engineer will ensure that the contractors will carry out the works as per BoQ, specifications and drawings, in agreement with the laws and regulations of Nepal. 
  • The Civil Site Engineer will ensure that the materials used by the contractor conform to the standard and are certified as per law requirements. 
  • The Civil Site Engineer will ensure that all the variations are authorized by the employer and, if required by the law, by the relevant authorities. 
  • The Civil Site Engineer shall be liable for the smooth running of the project as per master schedule, informing regularly and promptly the employer and its representative on progression of works and on any deviation from the expected plans.
  • The Civil Site Engineer will be in charge of the application of all safety measures at the construction site, ensuring that the Contractor provides all required safety equipment and trainings to the workers. 
  • The Civil Site Engineer will also monitor the application of all contractual obligations by the contractor, reporting promptly any breach to the employer.

Geographical area to be covered 

  • Jarshingpauwa, Sankharapur Municipility, Ward number 3, Kathmandu, Nepal 

Scope of work 

  • Attend daily activities at the construction sites. 
  • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports, stating the nature of works, manpower and materials consumed for each item of works as per the formats agreed with the employer. 
  • Prepare/modify drawings and cost calculations, if required and after consultation with the employer’s representative. 
  • Inform the employer and its representative for any variations in design and drawings and clarification of ambiguous items to the contractors. 
  • Overview and verify work inspection document including test results if any, prior to submission to the employer’s representative. 
  • Actively promote at field level the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) aspects during construction supervision. 
  • Report to the employer any security issues or accident. 
  • Carry out periodic meetings with the stakeholders of the projects (e.g. Government officials, medical school representatives) and report on them to relevant authority.
  • Identify and rectify any errors that may arise relating to drawings and construction. 
  • Check on interim payment certificates along with the employer’s representatives. 
  • Cross verify and tally the running bills of the contractor with the actual work performed and standard BoQ, prior forwarding to the Employer's Representative. 
  • Any other work assigned by the project coordination team (employer or employer’s representative) that is relevant and within the ability of the Civil Engineer. 
  • Preparation of as built drawings in coordination with the contractor’s engineer. 
  • Preparation of summary of reports. 
  • Verification of final payment certificate along with the employer’s representative. 
  • Preparation of payment summary and present a final financial report to the employer.

The works will be implemented under the supervision of a Civil Engineer with an experience of minimum of 5 years in site supervision and/or management especially school building, canteen block and monastery, which will be the contact person during the contract. The site engineer must hold a bachelor degree in civil engineering and should have registered in Nepal Engineering Council (NEC), should be fluent in written and spoken English and should have experience working in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Tools. The candidate should have excellent communication skills, negotiation skills, problem solving and decision-making skills, employee handling, organization & time management skills.

Reporting

The Civil Site Engineer will report directly to the employer’s representative through their official media.
