Call for Experts – Nepal Jal Jangal Activity

Around the globe, RTI brings together private- and public-sector stakeholders to manage natural resources and promote sustainable livelihoods while conserving unique biodiversity.By enhancing institutions, policy, and technical capacity, we strengthen natural resource management in protected areas, forests, watersheds, and their surrounding environments.  We work with governments, communities, and key stakeholders interested in applying data-driven conservation and biodiversity management approaches.

RTI is a top implementer for USAID programming, known for scientific rigor and excellence, including additional activities focused in other sectors, such as policy, public health, and education around the world.RTI is currently seeking professionals with expertise in natural resource management, forestry and aquatic resource management that promotes economic sustainability for communities while also promoting biodiversity conservation in Nepal. Candidates should be fluent in English. We are currently accepting CVs/resumes for experts with the following skills:

Community based natural resources management: experience in community-based solutions for improved natural resources management in Nepal, including sustainable practices in forestry, terrestrial and aquatic ecosystem management, protected areas and conservation areas, and biodiversity conservation.

Private sector engagement and development: experience supporting economic opportunities in small business growth, community-based enterprises, and commercial linkages with products and services from forestry (timber and non-timber) value chains, tourism, sustainable agriculture, and other nature-based enterprises in Nepal.

Environmental crime: experience with environmental crime prevention and prosecution in Nepal, including illegal wildlife trafficking, with knowledge of legal and policy frameworks, justice systems, and law enforcement challenges.

Land use planning: experience with land use planning, land and resource rights, and related policy frameworks and their application to local communities and productive activities in Nepal.

Institutional strengthening and capacity building: experience working with public, private, and civil society organizations(including community forest user groups) at local, regional, and national levels, including those related to governance and/or enforcement of policy frameworks related to natural resources management, environmental crime prevention, environmental and social safeguards, and climate resilience.

Sustainable livelihoods: experience working with local communities, farmers, producer associations, and others in Nepal to establish or enhance sustainable natural resource-based production models, income generation, and local economic activity.

Civil society engagement: experience in building relationships with civil society, civil society organizations, and community leaders to build capacities for dialogue, advocacy, and participation in policy design, environmental safeguards, and enforcement processes.

Climate resilience: experience with conducting climate vulnerability assessments for communities and ecosystems, developing local climate adaptation and climate action plans, and integrating climate resilience into broader natural resource management and community development initiatives.

Gender, youth, and social inclusion (GYSI): experience with conducting gender, youth, and social inclusion analyses and advising project teams to inform activity design with proper considerations and safeguards that maximize stakeholder participation and involvement.

Environmental monitoring: experience with the implementation of USAID environmental regulations and guidelines around environmental mitigation and monitoring plans, as well as knowledge and experience with Nepali policy and legal frameworks regarding environmental compliance.

Activity fund/grants management: experience with USAID grants management guidelines, regulations, and program administration, including implementation of different grant types, pre-award surveys, financial management, and other related actions.

Contracts, procurement, finance, accounting, human resources: experience with USAID program management and operational aspects of project implementation such as contract and subcontract management, procurement, financial management, accounting, and human resources, and understanding and experience in local financial, administrative, and accounting procedures in compliance with Nepali law.

Experts should possess at least six years of relevant experience. Experience with donor funded projects such as USAID, World Bank, DFID preferred.
