BACKGROUND
USAID Agricultural Inputs is a five-year USAID-funded Feed the Future (FTF) activity in Nepal. The aim of USAID Agricultural Inputs is to increase the availability, accessibility, and use of agricultural inputs and technology to improve Nepal’s agricultural productivity. The Activity is implemented by Winrock International in collaboration with five organizations: Center for Environmental and Agricultural Policy, Research, Extension and Development (CEAPRED), MarketShare Associates (MSA), Pathway Technology, Fertilizer Association Nepal (FAN), and Vikara Institute.
USAID Agricultural Inputs will enable lead firms, agrovets, input suppliers, local machinery service providers, and Government of Nepal (GON) change agents and farmers to increase productivity, input supply chain efficiency, market system competitiveness, and strengthen the enabling environment in a way that equitably addresses the needs of women, youth, and members of marginalized groups. USAID Agricultural Inputs will benefit 200,000 farmers in the USAID Feed the Future (FTF) zone of influence.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Business and Market Systems (BMSD) Trainee will gain knowledge of the agricultural inputs market system through active involvement with the USAID Agricultural Inputs team. This involvement will include meeting the stakeholders (private and public) in the agriculture inputs market system, identifying prominent issues in the market system that the activity can address and supporting in the co-creation process to address those issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Conduct opportunity mapping as guided by supervisor.
- Support private sector partners to identify gaps in the business model and co-create with the focal person of the private sector to address the gaps.
- Meet GoN representatives and officers to discuss collaboration opportunities.
- Support BMSD team in the documentation process.
- Support in data collection and report writing for any research conducted by the team.
- Field visit and monitor the project activities and report to the BMSD team.
- Report to supervisor about the work progress.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Agribusiness or Agriculture Engineering.
- Work experience in marketing, sales, and finance will be a plus.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft office package including Word and Excel.
- Good communication skills in English and Nepali.
- Report writing skills will be a plus
- Should be from the same locality/cluster.
- Willing to travel to the field.
DURATION, LOCATION AND REPORTING
The duration of the traineeship will be for six months starting on or about July 2024. The BMSD Trainee will report to the Senior Business Opportunities Manager. The position will be based in Nepalgunj but will require frequent travel to the Activity’s focus districts.
FACILITIES/UTILITIES, STIPEND AND LOGISTICS:
The trainee selected will be expected to work from USAID Agricultural Inputs regional/cluster Office. The Activity will arrange in-country travel to the field. Perdiem, including lodging and meals and incidentals (M&IE) will be reimbursed for applicable number of travel days as per USAID Agricultural Inputs policies.
The trainee selected to participate in the program will be provided a Fixed monthly stipend of NPR 26,000 (excluding applicable taxes) during the traineeship. Additional benefits included paid leave, scheduled holiday and insurance coverage for medical and accidental incidents for the trainee.
