Terms of reference for the Program Officer

JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc is seeking applications for the following position for the Chlorexidine Navi Care Program (CNCP), a three year project from October 2014 to September 2017. Chlorhexidine Navi Care Program is supporting the Government of Nepal's (GoN) intention to reduce neonatal mortality. CNCP is supporting to implement Chlorhexidine (CHX) cord care program in the different districts of Nepal. JSI/CNCP has announced vacancy for the post of Program Officer, a full-time position (1.0 of FTE) based in Kathmandu, Nepal with frequent field visits in the program districts. S/he will ensure proper implementation of CNCP, coordinate with field staffs, partners including government agencies, write reports, documentation of project achievements and lessons learned.

Major responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the field staff on the Chlorhexidine cord care program
  • Provide technical assistance to the JSI/CNCP field staff and district health office in Chlorhexidine related issues
  • Visit the program district frequently (70% of the total time)
  • Close monitoring of all the field staff’s performance and assist them as required
  • Coordinate with the Logistic Management Division, regional health store and district health store and provide technical assistance
  • Coordinate with BCC team and support in BCC activities in the field
  • Support the Chlorhexidine cord care training and other training by JSI/CNCP
  • Support the scale up of Chlorhexidine cord care at the national level
  • Capacitate field staff as required (technical as well as administrative)
  • Participate in different review and planning meeting

Basic requirements:

  • Education and experience: Bachelor of Public Health with five years’ relevant experience or Master in Public Health with 1 years of relevant experience
  • Have experience or interested in intensive field visit
  • Prior experience in Chlorhexidine cord care program will be an additional asset
  • Have strong communication skill
  • Proficient user of the Microsoft packages  (MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint) and skills of SPSS will be an added advantage
  • Good command over English and Nepali language
  • Flexible to manage field visit on request
