Maiti Nepal, like any other Non-Government Organization (NGO) in Nepal, operates through a general agreement with Social Welfare Council, Government of Nepal that allows it to implement programs to prevent human trafficking by reaching out to the community, particularly children and women, by raising the awareness level of communities and extending life skills so that children and women are not trafficked into different forms of abuse including exploitation.

Position: Wardens and Child Care Takers

Working Hours: Full-time

Role Requirement: Due to the sensitive nature of the role, which involves working closely with women and girls, only women candidates will be considered for these positions.

Number of Residential staff required: 2 Wardens

Number of candidates required: 2 Wardens (1 each at Child Protection Center and Women Rehabilitation Center), 2 Child Care Takers

(Note: Residential staff is preferred for both the positions, and the working hours shall be based on the shifts which is 8 hours per shift in a day for non residential staff)

Maiti Nepal is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and empowering vulnerable women and children, especially those affected by trafficking and exploitation. We are looking for qualified and compassionate people to join our team and contribute to our Child Protection and Women Rehabilitation services.

Key Responsibilities of Warden (Child Protection Center):

1. Daily Routine Management

  • Wake up the children on time.
  • Coordinate and oversee the children before and during the daily Bhajan session.
  • Oversee the children during breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner to ensure they eat well and on time.
  • Oversee the children during evening study time and dinner.
  • Assist in taking the attendance of the children before they are sent to school.

2. Health, Safety, and Well-being

  • Try understanding the physical and emotional state of children, and report any concerning signs to the Line Manager.
  • Coordinate with the clinic/Primary Health Care Center when medication is needed for children.
  • Ensure safety by observing children and staying alert during all activities and within the premises.
  • Ensure that the food prepared for children is hygienic, nutritious, and healthy.
  • Ensure that any unauthorized or prohibited items/materials are not brought to the premises and communicate to the authorized committee for appropriate action in alignment with the Child Protection and Safeguarding policies of the organization.
  • Carry out back checks among the children before going to school.

3. Behavior and Conflict Management

  • Foster positive behavior among children and help resolve conflicts with proper guidance.
  • Respond to behavioral issues promptly and effectively.
  • Ensure the rules and policies are implemented fairly and consistently among the children.

4. Educational and Recreational Support

  • Oversee and coordinate dance/exercise sessions in the evening after children return from school.
  • Design, recommend, and implement indoor and outdoor activities such as sports, arts and crafts, and recreational sessions.
  • Encourage a healthy lifestyle including physical exercise and health-related activities in the daily schedule.
  • Prepare weekly/monthly activity schedules that include educational, recreational, and physical components.
  • Organize field trips, nature walks, and adventure outings based on the interests and needs of the children.

5. Coordination and Communication

  • Coordinate with the Assistant Shelter Incharge, Shelter Officer, and Admin Department to provide clothes for children.
  • Maintain communication with guardians, caretakers, and other staff about the progress, behavior, and needs of the residents in coordination and collaboration with the Shelter department.
  • Arrange and manage documents related to the case studies of girls in the Shelter Office.

6. Facility and Resource Management, and Others

  • Monitor the stock status of essential kitchen items (such as rice, vegetables, oil, spices, etc.) and inform the administration in time for necessary purchases.
  • Store raw materials safely and appropriately (in sealed containers, racks, etc.).
  • Maintain a daily record of consumption (for transparency and management).
  • Manage and maintain all materials and equipment used in activities, ensuring they are in good condition.
  • Ensure rooms, activity areas, and materials are clean, organized, and ready for use.
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned by the Line Manager as and when necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of Intermediate Level (10+2)
  • Minimum 1 year of work experience in a similar setting (preferably in NGOs/INGOs or rehabilitation centers).
  • Ability to deal with trauma-affected individuals with sensitivity and empathy.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work in flexible hours, including emergencies.
  • Knowledge of Child Safeguarding and Protection, gender-based violence and trafficking issues is a plus.

Key Responsibilities of Warden (Women Rehabilitation Center):

1. Daily Routine Management

  • Wake up the women and girls early in the morning.
  • Coordinate and oversee daily Bhajan sessions.
  • Ensure breakfast/tea and main meals are ready on time.
  • Monitor women and girls during morning, afternoon, and evening meals.
  • Ensure that the rooms are clean.
  • Lock all rooms after use and ensure all individuals are on the premises.

2. Kitchen & Food Management

  • Assign and supervise cooking and kitchen duties.
  • Oversee and support snack preparation and cleaning afterward.
  • Gather everyone for snacks, meals, and post-meal cleaning.
  • Assign vegetable cutting or kitchen preparation tasks as needed.
  • Ensure meals are consumed well and on time.

3. Shelter Safety and Security

  • Monitor for any unauthorized items, such as electronics, junk food, alcohol, or drugs.
  • Conduct bag checks of children before they leave for school.
  • Communicate with night security guards to ensure safety and security by sharing necessary details if there are any risks.
  • Remove trespassers or unnecessary visitors from the premises when required.
  • Monitor the physical presence of all girls and women throughout the day.

4. Counseling, Conflict Resolution & Discipline

  • Observe and counsel women and girls based on behavior to ensure emotional wellbeing.
  • Address behavior-related issues promptly and fairly.
  • Facilitate positive relationships among beneficiaries and support conflict resolution.
  • Ensure fair implementation of rules and discipline.

5. Activities and Engagement

  • Design and implement weekly/monthly schedules including educational, recreational, and physical activities
  • Plan and facilitate indoor and outdoor sessions (sports, art & craft, music, TV time, etc.).
  • Encourage women’s participation in life-skill activities through workshops related to art, tailoring, handicraft and others.
  • Organize external excursions such as nature walks, cultural trips, and adventure activities.
  • Lead Bhajan sessions, TV time, and structured downtime routines.

6. Health, Well-being & Coordination

  • Monitor physical and emotional health of residents, notify clinic/ Primary Health Care Center or relevant departments when needed.
  • Coordinate with the clinic(Primary Health Care Center) for medicine distribution when girls or women are unwell.
  • Support communication between the shelter and families/guardians when required (e.g., through calls).
  • Promote a healthy lifestyle through exercise and hygiene routines.

7. Administrative & Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper handling and care of materials and equipment used in activities.
  • Coordinate with the line manager for updates and improvements.
  • Communicate regularly with the Line Manager about the behavior, needs, and progress of the residents.
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned by the Line Manager as and when necessary.

Key Responsibilities of Child Care Taker:

1. Infant and Child Care Responsibilities

  • Engage and comfort infants and young children to help them begin their daily routine.
  • Bathe infants and children well, help them brush their teeth, and change clothes as needed.
  • Prepare and feed age-appropriate nutritious meals or snacks such as porridge and milk.
  • Change diapers immediately after urination or defecation, clean the child well, and manage waste safely and in hygienic manner.
  • Give regular oil massages and manage sleeping schedules for infants and children.
  • Gently put children to sleep and comfort them if they have difficulty falling asleep.
  • Avoid feeding cold or stale food to ensure only warm and fresh food is given.
  • Observe the health condition of infants and children and inform the nurse immediately if they appear unwell.

2. Hygiene and Safety Responsibilities

  • Keep children’s rooms, beds, play areas, and all used materials clean and tidy.
  • Wash and dry children’s clothes, bed sheets, and blankets regularly.
  • Ensure children play safely and protect them from injury while playing.
  • Ensure that rooms and surrounding areas are child-friendly and safe, timely.

3. Record Keeping and Communication

  • Assist in recording daily details such as feeding, sleeping, and any medication provided.
  • Inform the immediate supervisor of any issues, changes, or situations requiring special attention.
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned by the Line Manager as and when necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of basic education (Grade 8–10).
  • Training or experience in childcare, early childhood development, nursing aide, or caregiving preferred.
  • At least 1–2 years of experience caring for infants and children in a home, school, or institutional setting.

Core Competencies Required:

Empathy and Compassion- Genuinely caring for the emotional and physical well-being of infants and children.

Child Care and Safety Skills – Ability to provide hygienic care, nutritious feeding, and a safe, nurturing environment for infants and children.

Observation and Responsiveness – Alertness to children’s health, behavior, and emotional needs, with timely communication to supervisors or health care staff.

Teamwork and Accountability – Works cooperatively with other staff.
