Nepal Youth Foundation Nepal (NYF Nepal) is a non-profit organization working for the rights and welfare of underprivileged children and youth of Nepal through education, health, and other humanitarian projects.

One of NYF Nepal's flagship programs is Vocational Education and Career Counseling. This program provides valuable opportunities for Nepalese youths to acquire practical skills and knowledge essential for their career development. Through our own Olgapuri Vocational School, we deliver comprehensive training in carpentry, welding, electrical, plumbing, and industrial tailoring. Furthermore, we extend opportunities for underprivileged youth to enroll in diverse skill-based training programs tailored to meet market demands and program specifications.

To enhance our team of professionals and ensure the effective functioning of the program, NYF Nepal is seeking Vocational Education and Career Counseling (VECC) Officers.

Position 1: Nepal Youth Foundation Nepal, Chunikhel, Lalitpur 

Position 2:  Nepal Youth Foundation Nepal, Kanchanrup, Saptari

Purpose of the Position: 

Facilitate the seamless enrollment and placement of students in both long-term and short-term training programs, overseeing their progress and fostering their knowledge and skill development. Ensure smooth operations across all sectors, promptly addressing any challenges to maintain uninterrupted workflow and enhance productivity.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Intake and Placement of trainees

  • Coordinate with the program manager to strategize and execute vocational trades orientation and career counseling activities efficiently. Frequent field visit is required. 
  • Establish strong connections with stakeholders, including governmental and non-governmental organizations (GO's and NGO's) to identify and engage the most deserving communities and youths for enrollment in the training programs.
  • Selecting trainees according to their interests, commitment level, inclination towards the trade, and other pertinent factors, while also incorporating additional selection processes as necessary.
  • Research and analyze labor market dynamics to understand demand trends, both for services and self-employment. Recommend new or modified training programs to align with evolving labor market conditions. 
  • Conduct/facilitate the life skill (Communication, entrepreneurship, motivation, Information technology, job search skill) sessions to enrich the trainee's soft skills for better career prospects. 
  • Strengthen public relations/networking with organizations and individuals who can support in placement of the trainees. 
  • Plan and execute various promotional activities through direct and indirect approaches, utilizing online and offline mediums. Develop promotional materials and present OVS training programs across different platforms.
  • Coordinating and connecting with stakeholders at various levels (governmental or non-governmental) as required for the successful enrollment and placement plan. Contact Job providers for on-the-Job training (OJT) and placement services. Conduct regular meetings with stakeholders for student intake and placement. 
  • Monitor OJT progress for all trades, and update trainee placement status quarterly. Plan a two-year follow-up process post-graduation
  • Regularly supervise training sessions to ensure effective learning and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Assess the demand for training materials and evaluate their quality and quantity to ensure they meet the needs of the training program effectively.
  • Conduct regular inspections of private hostels, ensuring that hygiene standards are met and that residents have a well-organized living environment. 
  • Quickly understand and adapt to execute responsibilities as needed for the best interest of organization and as instructed by the supervisor.

Documentation

  • Collect case studies, trainee data, and necessary documents to aid in periodic report preparation.
  • Organize and manage files and documentation systematically for easy access
  • Update & keep a record of the progress of individual trainees and supervise their activities daily. Motivate and provide individual counseling if required.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure all required documentation is up to date and readily available.
  • Capturing the visual records of in-house training sessions, workshops, and other relevant activities for documentation purposes. Organize and label the pictures appropriately for easy retrieval and reference
  • Update & keep records of progress of individual trainees and supervise their activities on monthly basis. 
  • Generate reports as requested by supervisors, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Assist in coordinating and managing events such as orientations, graduation ceremonies and other programs to ensure smooth execution and memorable experiences.
  • Maintaining comprehensive documentation of all financial transactions between NYF and partner organization.

Key Working Relationships:

  • Internal: Executive Director, OVS (Managing Director, Program Coordinator), Finance and Accounts, Admin and Operations Team, Program Managers, Hostel Warden, other training instructors and other organizational members.
  • External: Relevant government authorities, Organizations, agencies and other relevant stakeholders.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree (preferably Master’s degree) in disciplines like Management or Social Sciences with min 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge: Possess extensive expertise in labor market dynamics, the country's demand for skilled human resources development, youth mobilization, community social and cultural aspects, and youth development strategies.
  • Skills, Abilities: Must possess sound intra-personal and inter-personal communication skills with ability to work in diverse communities and with people; should be self-motivated, flexible and task oriented. Able to work on computer (Windows-based applications). Proficient in community and youth mobilization.
  • Travel Requirement: Frequent field travel to villages and various parts of Nepal/program priority areas as necessary.
  • Language: Bilingual, English and Nepali.
  • Others: Driving license for two-wheeler (motorbike/scooter).
