Position Title: Program, Research, and Knowledge Coordinator Organization: Ujyalo Foundation
Location: Kathmandu, Nepal
Duration: 1 year [Performance-based extension]
1. Background
Ujyalo Foundation is a feminist organization committed to advancing gender equality, inclusive leadership, and social justice through leadership development, research, advocacy, and community engagement.
As the organization expands its national and regional work, there is a growing need to strengthen program coordination alongside research, documentation, and knowledge production. This role is designed to bridge implementation and learning, ensuring that programs are grounded in evidence and that insights inform advocacy and policy engagement.
2. Purpose of the Role
The Program, Research, and Knowledge Coordinator will support coordination of Ujyalo Foundation’s programs at both national and regional (Asia) levels, while leading research, documentation, and knowledge production across initiatives.
The role will ensure that program implementation is informed by evidence and reflection, and that learning from both Nepal and regional engagements contributes to advocacy, policy influence, and movement-building.
3. Key Responsibilities
A. Program Coordination (National and Regional)
- Support planning and implementation of programs at national and regional (Asia) levels, including fellowships, civic initiatives, and coalition engagements
- Coordinate with program teams, partners, and stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of activities
- Support organization of events, consultations, and convenings (both in Nepal and regionally)
- Maintain regular communication with partners, fellows, and collaborators
- Track progress, outputs, and key learnings across programs
- Travel within Nepal to support field-level program implementation, documentation, and stakeholder engagement
- Undertake occasional regional travel (Asia) to support convenings, partnerships, and regional initiatives

B. Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement
- Support engagement with national and regional partners, networks, and institutions
- Assist in coordination with regional coalitions and networks
- Maintain relationships with local stakeholders, including community groups, municipalities, and partners
- Support the identification of opportunities for collaboration and partnership
C. Research and Knowledge Production (National and Regional)
- Design and support qualitative and mixed-method research across programs
- Conduct literature reviews, including grey literature, to inform program and policy work
- Develop research tools (interview guides, surveys, frameworks)
- Ensure feminist, ethical, and inclusive research practices
D. Writing and Documentation
- Produce high-quality written outputs, including:
- Research reports and policy briefs
- Donor reports and concept notes
- Case studies and impact stories
- Document program processes, learning, and outcomes across both national and regional initiatives
- Translate complex insights into accessible and engaging narratives
E. Research–Program Integration
- Capture real-time insights from program implementation and translate them into research and written outputs
- Feed learning from Nepal into regional conversations, and vice versa
- Support participatory documentation with fellows and community members
- Identify emerging themes, gaps, and opportunities across program work
F. Advocacy and Communications Alignment
- Work with the communications team to align research outputs with advocacy goals
- Support the development of blogs, articles, and knowledge products
- Contribute to organizational visibility and knowledge platforms
4. Deliverables
- Research reports, policy briefs, and knowledge products as per program needs
- Timely donor reports and concept notes
- Case studies and documentation outputs across programs
- Periodic synthesis of program learning and insights
5. Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Public Health, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or related field
- 3–5years of experience in program coordination, research, and writing
- Experience working at the community/national level; regional or multi-country experience is an asset
- Strong writing and analytical skills with experience producing reports and policy-oriented documents
- Familiarity with feminist research methodologies and gender analysis
- Experience working with NGOs, networks, or social justice initiatives

Background

The Foundation’s Feminist Leadership Institutes are flagship programs designed to equip individuals with the skills, knowledge, and networks to lead change in their communities and beyond. These programs emphasize rights-based, intersectional, and inclusive approaches to leadership.
2. Purpose of the Role
The Program Coordinator will lead the coordination and implementation of Ujyalo Foundation’s leadership programs, with a strong focus on session planning, fellow engagement, and alumni network building.
The role will also support monitoring, documentation, and storytelling to ensure that program learning and community impact are captured and strengthened over time.
3. Key Responsibilities
A. Program Coordination and Implementation
- Lead day-to-day coordination and implementation of Feminist Leadership Institutes
- Develop and manage program timelines, schedules, and logistics
- Coordinate residential modules, workshops, and learning sessions
- Liaise with facilitators, speakers, and resource persons
- Ensure smooth execution of all program activities
B. Session Planning and Learning Design
- Support the design and planning of program sessions in line with feminist and rights-based frameworks
- Work closely with facilitators to prepare session plans, materials, and learning tools
- Ensure sessions are participatory, inclusive, and aligned with program objectives
- Contribute to refining and evolving the curriculum based on feedback and learning
C. Fellow and Alumni Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for fellows throughout the program
- Build and maintain meaningful relationships with fellows and alumni
- Support the creation and strengthening of alumni networks and engagement platforms
- Design and facilitate alumni engagement activities (meetings, check-ins, collaborative spaces)
- Track fellow journeys and continued engagement beyond the program
D. Monitoring, Documentation, and Learning
- Support monitoring of program progress, participation, and outcomes
- Collect and document qualitative and quantitative data from program activities
- Develop testimonials, case stories, and impact narratives from fellows and alumni
- Archive community insights and program learning through structured documentation methods
- Contribute to periodic learning reflections and program reviews
E. Writing and Reporting
- Prepare donor reports, internal reports, and program updates
- Support the development of concept notes and program proposals
- Produce documentation outputs, including case studies, reflection pieces, and summaries
- Ensure timely and high-quality reporting across program activities
F. Coordination and Quality Assurance
- Ensure quality and consistency across program delivery and documentation
- Maintain organized records of program materials, participant data, and outputs
- Coordinate with internal teams (program, communications, finance) for smooth implementation
G. Field Engagement and Travel
- Travel within Nepal to support program implementation, fellow engagement, and documentation
- Support coordination of activities at the community and provincial levels

- Session plans and program schedules

5. Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related field
- 3–5 years of experience in program coordination, preferably in leadership development or social justice programs
- Experience working with youth, feminist networks, or community-based initiatives
- Strong facilitation and coordination skills
- Experience in documentation, storytelling, and report writing
