UWS Nepal is a charity dedicated to improving educational opportunities for underprivileged children. We started operations in 2015 as a non-profit, the same year our country witnessed a 7.8 magnitude earthquake. Post-earthquake UWS Nepal has constructed 636 earthquake-resistant classrooms across 321 communities, educating 20,690 students in our Sankhuwasabha, Gulmi, Bhojpur, Taplejung and Tanahun districts. We aim to provide quality education to all children, and to reach that goal; we work to improve educational opportunities for children living in marginalised communities and remote regions. Details / requirements:
1. Senior Construction Manager
Duty Station: Kathmandu (40%) with travel to Koshi, Lumbini and Gandaki Provinces (60%)
Reports to: Country Director
Role Summary:
The Senior Construction Manager will be responsible for the overall management of construction projects in order to ensure that they are completed within the time, scope, and budget agreed upon by UWS Nepal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leading school construction projects, including but not limited to construction design, project management, and procurement.
- Develop and manage project schedules, including all necessary resources, to ensure the timely completion of school building construction projects.
- Creating construction drawings, Bill of Quantities, and material specifications for construction.
- Coordinate with construction officers, building officers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with design specifications, codes, and regulations.
- Prepare and manage project budgets, including all cost estimates, and track project expenditures.
- Coordinating with communities on construction-related activities.
- Liaising with related government agencies for drawing approval.
- Plan and schedule all construction activities, including site preparation, excavation, foundation work, and building construction, as well as the construction of WASH systems.
- Supervise construction site activities, including site safety, quality control, and weekly site meetings with building officers and other stakeholders.
- Ensure that all materials and equipment are ordered, received, and stored in a safe and secure manner.
- Manage conflicts that may arise at the site.
- Monitor and control project progress, including progress reports and schedule updates, and report any issues or delays to the line manager.
- Ensure that all construction activities adhere to local laws and regulations, as well as national building codes and standards.
- Liaise with local authorities, communities, and other stakeholders to ensure that construction projects are completed in a collaborative and inclusive manner.
- Prepare and submit all necessary reports, including progress reports, financial reports, and any other relevant documentation, to the line manager.
- Manage and mentor any junior staff members or labourers working on construction projects.
- Ensure that all construction projects are completed to a high standard of quality, safety, and sustainability.
Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum 3–5 years of progressive experience in construction project management, preferably in school construction, WASH infrastructure, or similar community-based projects.
- Proven experience in project planning, budgeting, procurement, and contract management.
- Strong knowledge of local building codes, construction standards, and safety regulations.
- Experience in liaising with local government authorities and community stakeholders.
- Proficiency in construction management software, project scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office applications.

2. Finance Officer

Role Summary
The Finance Officer is a key contributor to the success of UWS, responsible for supporting financial operations, managing budgets, ensuring compliance, and maintaining financial records. This role focuses on financial reporting, payroll management, procurement of goods and services, and audit facilitation to ensure transparency and accountability. By aligning financial practices with UWS’s mission to transform education in underserved communities, the Finance Officer plays a crucial role in maintaining financial integrity and efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Management and reporting.
- Assist in managing expenditure accounting and preparing financial summaries using accounting application.
- Prepare monthly financial reports, ensuring accurate coding and compliance with UWS reporting standards.
- Prepare journal vouchers with adequate supporting documentation and initiate the payment process.
- Handle and payments process, including electronic transactions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain payroll records, ensuring statutory deductions and compliance with the Labour Act.
- Prepare monthly fund requests and submit to HQ for timely fund transfers.
- Support annual budget preparation and monitor expenditure patterns against approved budgets.
- Maintain both electronic and hard copy archives of financial records to ensure proper documentation and easy retrieval.
- Maintain proper financial documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
Procurement
- Prepare and implement annual procurement plans, ensuring timely and compliant sourcing of goods and services.
- Manage supplier communications, quotations, purchase orders, and payments to ensure quality, value for money, and timely delivery.
- Maintain transparent documentation, ensure adherence to donor and government regulations, and support continuous improvement of procurement systems.
Partner Monitoring and Capacity Building
- Conduct periodic monitoring of the partner and issue management letter and ensure recommendations are timely executed.
- Review partner financial performance, including reviewing financial reports, expenditure patterns, and adherence to donor and organisational guidelines.
- Provide guidance and on-site support training to partners on financial management, budgeting, reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with program teams to ensure partners follow proper financial procedures and implement corrective actions when needed.
- Contribute to strengthening partners’ internal controls and financial reporting systems to enhance transparency and accountability.
Additional Responsibilities
- Facilitate different audit Maintaining records and verifying inventory/assets.
- Fulfil additional responsibilities as requested by donor agencies or the Head of Finance.
- Coordinating visits to government offices, the Social Welfare Council (SWC), and other relevant authorities as required.
- Support Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) reporting.
- Carry out any other relevant financial and administrative tasks as assigned.
Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in financial management, including at least 3 years in a senior or supervisory role within an INGO.
- Experience with Truebook or similar accounting applications.

3. Finance Associate
Duty Station: Tamghas, Gulmi

Reporting To: Regional Coordinator
Major duties and responsibilities:
- Responsible for implementing internal organisational and financial processes
- Manage all invoices and prepare monthly reports in liaison with field offices
- Managing payments to different vendors
- Prepare bank reconciliations
- Keeping records and documenting financial processes
- Monthly wages calculation and preparing payment documents.
- Verify the authenticity of refund/DSA claims
- Ensure accuracy of party ledgers; quarterly reconciliation and report
- Communicate with other departments as well as field staff
- Developing in-depth knowledge of the organisation and its processes
- Supporting the Sr. Finance Officer as per need.
Required Qualification:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, social sciences, or related field.
- 2 - 3 years of operational and financial management experience.
- Strong consultative and negotiation skills
- Must be able to manage periodic field office visits as and when required by the organisation
- Ability to build positive working relationships with stakeholders of the organisation
- Good analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills
- Must have demonstrated ability to work in complex environments, work across different cultures, and manage diverse teams to deliver impact within agreed timelines
- Ability to manage tight deadlines and deliver high volumes of work with minimal supervision
