HERD International is currently implementing the Darwin Extra Nepal Pollination Project: Upscaling Pollination to Enhance Biodiversity and Human Welfare in Nepal. In collaboration with national and international partners, this four-year project aims to address pollinator declines that threaten livelihoods and nutrition in the country. With learnings from our previous two projects (Micro-Poll and Darwin Main), we have proved that these trends can be reversed at a local scale, if farmers, researchers and policymakers work together. Scaling up in extent and ambition, we will deliver a national-level regime-shift in pollinator awareness, farming and beekeeping practices, research capacity, and conservation policy in Nepal, leading to healthier people, economies and ecosystems across the Himalayan region.

Working Location:

  • Gandaki Province: Mustang, Kaski, Lamjung, Syangja
  • Karnali Province: Surkhet, Jajarkot, Dailekh, Jumla
  • Lumbini Province: Kapilvastu, Dang, Palpa, Gulmi

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in the training on agroecosystem services, pollinator biodiversity and management, ecological data collection, teaching methods etc.
  2. Coordinate with local government institutions, agricultural offices, health facilities, schools and community stakeholders as and when necessary
  3. Take consent from the local organizations, schools, farmers, landowners, and other local stakeholders as and when necessary
  4. Establish demonstration farms showcasing the evidence-based Pollinator Stewardship Scheme through cultivation of high-value pollinator-dependent crops
  5. Create pollinator-friendly habitat and management practices on the farms and urban green spaces
  6. Manage pollinator-friendly demonstration farms in accordance with the guidelines and manuals
  7. Run weekly Farmer Field School (FFS) style sessions on demonstration farms to showcase and experiment with pollination management practices and traditional beekeeping
  8. Administer study tools and collect valid data periodically, and record project indicators on model farms (biodiversity surveys, crop yield, visitor numbers, follow-up surveys etc.)
  9. Share local case studies, local farming practices, pollinator pictures, pollinator-themed art and conservation/ management tips to the project team
  10. Strictly follow the guidelines, manuals and operational definitions of the technical terms referred in the tools prepared by the project team
  11. Report any adverse event related to project activities and other field-level difficulties to managers
  12. Participate in the regular monthly meeting at the district office
  13. Maintain professional and research ethics throughout job tenure
  14. Record the collected data (both in paper and digital form) and daily submission in server
  15. Report daily status, and monthly processes (monthly process document/ timesheet/ report)
  16. Support district team as per required in various district and field-level activities
  17. Safely use and protect the project tools and equipment from damage/ loss
  18. Strictly adhere to the norms and rules of HERD International during the contract period

Must have:

  1. Intermediate in Agriculture with minimum 2-year experience, or Pre-Diploma (JT/JTA) in Agriculture with 5 years of experience
  2. Experience in a rural setting with exposure to agriculture-based research and development projects
  3. Written and verbal communication skills in both Nepali and English.
  4. Residency in the project implementation district, or prior work experience in the district.
  5. Candidates holding a valid motorbike/scooter driving license will be given priority
