SHAKHI is a young women-led grassroots feminist organization dedicated to empowering women and girls from marginalized and vulnerable communities in the Terai/Madhesh region of Nepal, specifically in the Bara District. Our mission is to promote gender equity, social justice, and access to basic rights and opportunities for historically excluded groups. including the Dom, BIN, DAS, and Natuwa communities. These groups face deep-rooted social discrimination, poverty, and harmful practices like early forced marriages. Through our feminist approach, we seek to dismantle these barriers and create a society where women and girls can live with dignity, free from violence and discrimination.

SHAKHI: “Friends of Women” is a grassroots young women-led non-governmental, non-profit making, independent organization working in the Southern Part of Nepal called Terai/ Madhesh region especially in Bara Districts. It is led and managed by a group of women committed to the development and empowerment of women, girls and children of marginalized and vulnerable communities.

Background of the project

SHAKHI Bara is implementing “HAMRO SAHAS: Feminist Movement Building for Social Norm Change” of Pheta Rural municipality in Bara district of Madhesh Pradesh, support from the UK in Nepal and UN Women. Rooted in the lived experiences of Dalit and marginalized communities, the project aims to challenge deep-rooted gender discriminatory norms and harmful practices such as child marriage, domestic violence, early school drop-out and the dowry system. Shakhi, hereby invites applications from suitable and qualified Nepalese citizens for the trainers for a four-day residential capacity building training for girls as part of the Empowerment of Marginalized Communities. Position: Trainer for four days Capacity Building Training.

Contract Duration: 4 days ( 27-30 August 2025)

Training Location: Amlekhganj, Bara

Reporting To: Program Coordinator

Training Participants: Girls From Pheta Rural Municipality (Age 16-25)

Qualifications and Experience

1. Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Public Health, Development Studies, or related fields.
  • A master’s degree is preferred.

2. Training in Relevant Areas:

  • Formal or informal training in areas like gender equality and gender norms, Prevention of child marriage and harmful traditional practices, (GBV) and response mechanisms, legal right protection, Inclusion and intersectionality, leadership and confidence building

3. Knowledge of Gender and Social Inclusion:

  • Understanding of gender dynamics, intersectionality, SRHR and the mental health needs of marginalized communities (e.g., women, Dalits, LGBTQIA+, persons with disabilities).
