Village Development and Save the Environment Forum (VDSEF) Nepal is a non-profit organization with over 31 years of experience working in Kalikot district. VDSEF focuses on child rights, maternal and neonatal health, nutrition, climate change adaptation, poverty reduction, and the promotion of the economic, social, and cultural rights of marginalized and disadvantaged communities. The organization strives to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development in Kalikot through inclusive and community-driven initiatives.

VDSEF Nepal has a strong history of collaboration with civil society organizations (CSOs) and government agencies to uplift the most vulnerable groups, including women (especially single mothers), children, adolescents, elderly persons, Dalits, ethnic minorities, and people with disabilities.

Currently, VDSEF Nepal, in partnership with Save the Children, is implementing the Action Adolescent Maternal Newborn Health (aMNH) projects in Kalikot district. The Action Adolescent Maternal Newborn Health (aMNH) Project focuses on improving the health and well-being of parenting adolescents, mothers, and newborns through strong collaboration with communities, local governments, and other relevant stakeholders. This project is being implemented in Tilagupha Municipality and Subhakalika Rural Municipality.

VDSEF Nepal is now seeking applications from qualified and dedicated Nepali citizens for the following positions under these projects.

Position: Technical Coordinator-Adolescent MNH (Action aMNH Project) -1 (One)

  • Duty station: Project Office, Tilagupha Municipality, Kalikot, with ~80% field visits to Tilagupha and Subhakalika.
  • Report to: Program Coordinator
  • Salary and Benefits: As per the organization's norms commensurate with the project agreement

Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the program Coordinator, the Technical technical coordinator will be responsible for implementing aMNH project activities at health facility and community levels. The position will also support local governments in strengthening the technical capacity of Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) service providers to ensure respectful and quality care for adolescents across the ANC-PNC continuum, including newborn care, while coordinating with relevant community stakeholders.

KEY responsibilities.

Project planning and budgeting

  • Facilitate/support to the conduct and ensure community consultation with key stakeholders and beneficiaries for assessment, planning, and designing. 
  • Ensure proper data collection, documentation, and dissemination on Adolescent MNH issues regularly. 
  • Capacity building of the project team for the effective project activity implementation in palika and community levels. 
  • Support for making district and Local level project plan with references to agreed MNH and Health and Nutrition project activities on a monthly and quarterly basis.

Coordination, Collaboration, and Networking

  • Responsible for coordinating with relevant government stakeholders at the local level and other partners primarily working in the field of adolescent MNH to enhance collaborative implementation responsive to the needs of Pregnant and Parenting Adolescents. 
  • Ensure organizational visibility and sustainability at the Palika and community level. 
  • Participate in different networks and forums and coordinate at the community level likeminded organizations for resource maximization. 
  • Conduct technical monitoring and provide technical guidance/coaching and backstopping and provide timely feedback to field level Adolescent MNH-related project team.
  • Coordinate closely with SAHAYATRA-III health team and other SC project and with other actors beyond the project working on improving the MNH situation and develop collaboration with them to create synergies and deliver better results.
  • Harmonize, facilitate, and ensure the integration of the project components at community levels. 
  • Bridge the project related information between Save the Children and the organization.

Project implementation

  • Conduct technical monitoring and provide technical guidance/coaching and backstopping and provide timely feedback to field level Adolescent MNH related project team.
  • Lead the implementation of Minimum Service Standard (MSS) to identify key gaps and facilitate to develop an implementation of action plan.
  • Lead the implementation of onsite coaching and mentoring for health service providers including facilitating institutionalization of simulation-based mentoring at Palika level. 
  • Lead the training need assessment and support Palikas in developing training plans to enhance readiness to deliver MNH services. 
  • Lead and engage in local level advocacy to leverage resources for quality Adolescent MNH services. 
  • Support to Adolescent MNH Project team for making effective work plan of project implementation.  
  • Collect feedback and learning from stakeholders and other concern agencies for the program.
  • Provides day-to-day supervision of staff and works collaboratively with other SCI funded project.

Project review and monitoring

  • Support to conduct surveys, internal and external evaluations. 
  • Support for preparation and submit event wise reports to PC of Organization and SCI team. 
  • Ensure for the involvement of community to review program among the stakeholders and beneficiaries. 
  • Participate in the project review meeting with the project team to review planned activities of that month, along with challenges faced and lessons learned monthly. 
  • Support to conduct social audit and public hearing.

Project reporting and documentation

  • Prepared monthly project tracking and quarterly, semi-annually, and annual reports and submitted to the Project Coordinator, updating the information related to the project. 
  • Collect case studies/success stories, action photos, learning, and challenges for the program documentation. Submit field monitoring reports to PC and Save the children. 
  • Prepare and submit event reports, database, and indicator surveys. Undertaken field visits for monitoring and supervision of program personnel. 
  • Share the field visit reports with the line manager, with areas to be improved and betterment. 
  • Work closely with the Technical and Field officer to ensure the project progress is in track and the quality set in the project documents is met. 
  • Initiate corrective actions based on the feedback from MEAL and the Documentation officer, and Save the children.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or Midwifery (master’s degree preferred), with 2 years of experience in conducting onsite coaching and mentoring. Prior training in SBA or SHP will be considered an added advantage.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Sound knowledge on MNH and GEDSI
  • Knowledge and skill on maternal and neonatal health and training facilitation. 
  • Report and proposal and case studies writing skill.
  • Presentation, facilitation, and negotiation.
  • Very good skills and knowledge in documentation and reporting in English and Nepali.  
  • Excellent computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent presentation and training facilitation skill and knowledge.  

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Stress management skills.
  • Time management and communication skills.
  • Excellent coordination, communication, and interpersonal skills (team building and teamwork) with key stakeholders at project and Palika level.
