Handicap International Federation (HI) is an independent and impartial aid organization, created in 1982, working across 63 countries. HI works alongside the vulnerable populations, whatever the context, taking action to respond to their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. Present in Nepal since 2000, HI works through a network of local partner organizations in the area of health and physical rehabilitation, inclusive education and resilience including emergency response to improve the living conditions and involvement of the most vulnerable populations in Nepal.

HI Nepal invites applications from the qualified and interested candidates for the following position:

1. Sr. Technical Officer-Disability & Inclusion- 1 Position

Terms & Conditions: Fixed term contract (Contingent upon budget confirmation)

Location: Country Office, Kathmandu

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to the partners on inclusion and accessibility through providing orientation, on site visits, one to one meeting, and virtual trainings to field response team
  • Perform technical activities or ensure that project(s) activities are implemented in accordance with internal quality and technical standards and suggests improvements as necessary
  • Contribute and support in the writing of new proposals for new opportunities as required by the scope of project intervention
  • Capacity building of the staff, partners and other stakeholders on  on key technical approaches related to disability rights and disability inclusive programming
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the projects' team as required by the planned intervention and as delegated by the Country Manager/ Project Manager
  • Represent HI technical expertise by delegation in relevant local, regional and international networks and with local partners
  • Represent HI in national, district and local stakeholder meetings
  • Contribute towards the creation of an organizational learning culture that promotes the use of disability disaggregated data, evidence and analysis and understands its link to quality and accountable programming
  • Conduct regular orientation and re-fresher sessions for the staff on Disability and inclusion contributing towards the organizational learning culture and strengthening the awareness on it
  • Provide advice and guidance on inclusion aspects related to Persons with disabilities to internal and external interlocutors; ensure right based issues, legal assistance, and accessible aspects of persons with disabilities in consultations and advocacy with authorities, protection actors and concerned people
  • Ensure coordination and collaboration with the projects' technical partners, in cooperation with the Field Specialist
  • Contribute to the support or implementation of emergency preparedness actions of the program(s) and, during an emergency, adapts his/her work modality in order to contribute to an effective HI humanitarian response

Qualification and Skills:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science, Development Studies or related field with at least 5 years of relevant experience in similar role
  • Strong proven experience of working in Disability sector including experience of working with Organizations of Persons Disabilities (OPD) and wide network with disability actors in Nepal
  • Experience of supporting humanitarian preparedness, response, and recovery to ensure disability inclusion across sectors and phases
  • Strong understanding of the Disability Rights sector, policy priorities and the situation for adults and children with disabilities in Nepal
  • Skill on facilitation and/or design of classroom-based or remote training and skills development systems
  • Strong understanding of disability rights sector, policy priorities and the context for people with disabilities in Nepal & understanding of the convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)
  • Strong skills on networking, representation and partnership development
  • Strong communication, coordination and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in written and spoken English and Nepali
