Senior Research Officer
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, with a network of 191-member National Societies (NSs). The overall aim of IFRC is “to inspire, encourage, facilitate, and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by NSs with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering and thereby contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world.” IFRC works to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people before, during and after disasters, health emergencies and other crises. British Red Cross (BRC) a member of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement (RCM) is committed to increasing impact of the RCM by supporting communities and individuals to better prepare for, withstand and recover from disasters, conflicts and other crises. Under the 2019-24 Corporate Strategy BRC has been increasing its support to the RCM’s disaster response operations around the world in the areas of disaster preparedness, health and social care, water, sanitation and hygiene, disaster risk reduction, and organisational development. In Nepal BRC in partnership with Germany Red Cross (GRC) through ‘Programme for Urban Resilience Building Through Advanced Networking in South and South-East Asia project’is supporting Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) in implementing National Society’s COVID-19 early recovery plan with a focus on building their capacity to effectively respond to future disasters; invest in learning generation and dissemination ofBRC’s urban DRR resilience programming (SURE); and increase scope of NRCS in urban networking through learning sharing and exchange. |
Job purpose
The Senior Research Officer will lead research component of this project and bear overall responsibility of development and implementation of Research and Learning strategy to produce high-quality action research pieces on good practices and pilots implemented through SURE programme. The research action products development will be focused on targeting different target audience and will be utilised as evidence base advocacy on urban disaster risk reduction (DRR) both nationally, wider Red Cross Red Crescent movement, GRC funded URBAN SEA learning forums and wider Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and resilience sectors. The Senior. Research Officer will work in close collaboration with BRC and NRCS programme team, PMEAL, BRC Regional DRR Adviser, research institutes, and other external stakeholders to increase scale up and impact of BRC’s work on urban disaster resilience programming. S/he will be supported by 3 interns to undertake research work and for wider learning and sharing activities. |
