Organization Overview:

The Nepal Institute of Research and Communications (NIRC), established in 2018 and headquartered in Kathmandu, is a dynamic research-based organization committed to promoting evidence-based development in Nepal. NIRC specializes in designing and implementing high-quality social research, conducting baseline studies, evaluations, and gender and inclusion analyses in partnership with government bodies, NGOs, and international development agencies. NIRC also thrives on capacity building through professional training on research methodology, proposal writing, data analysis (using SPSS, R, and other tools), monitoring and evaluation, and development communication. Since its inception, NIRC has implemented about 80 research and capacity building projects and trained over 4000 early career researchers and development professionals. NIRC continues to contribute significantly to strengthening Nepal’s research ecosystem and promoting informed decision-making in the development sector.

Job Title: Research and Documentation Officer

Number Required: 1 (One)

Duty Station: Kathmandu, Nepal (with occasional field visits)

Reports To: Managing Director

Offered Remuneration and Benefits: NPR 40,000 per month (gross salary, excluding festival and travel allowances). Contract renewable on an annual basis, subject to satisfactory performance. The successful candidate must satisfactorily complete a 3-month probation period.

Position Overview:

The Research and Documentation Officer will play a key role in supporting NIRC's research initiatives and strategic communications. The position involves developing research content, assisting in the delivery of research projects, and enhancing the organization’s visibility through effective documentation and knowledge management.

Key Responsibilities:

Research and Knowledge Management (65%)

  • Support the design, implementation, and management of qualitative and quantitative research projects.
  • Conduct desk reviews, literature synthesis, and assist in field data collection and analysis
  • Assist in drafting reports, policy briefs, presentations, and other research outputs.
  • Manage knowledge products and support the dissemination of findings to stakeholders
  • Coordinate with research consultants, enumerators, and field teams as required
  • Prepare communication materials including success stories, human-interest stories, and visual content.

Administrative and Coordination Support (35%)

  • Support proposal writing and donor reporting processes.
  •  Maintain records of research and communication activities.
  •  Liaise with project partners, donors, and stakeholders as required.
  • Coordinate knowledge-sharing events, webinars, and stakeholder dialogues.

Qualifications and Experiences

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Health, or a related field.
  •  Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in research and documentation roles.
  • Strong research and data analysis skills, with experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Excellent writing, skills in English.
  • Familiarity with design tools (e.g., Canva) and data visualization is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
