Under the Sowing Diversity=Harvesting Security (SD=HS) Project

Sowing Diversity, Harvesting Choices (SD=HS) is a four-year initiative funded by SIDA and executed collaboratively by LI-BIRD and OXFAM Nepal across four districts in Sudurpaschim Province, Nepal. The project's primary goal is to enhance food security, nutrition, and resilience in the region by empowering smallholders, especially women and indigenous farmers, to access, cultivate, and market climate-resilient crop seeds. Additionally, the project advocates for strengthening farmers' seed systems and Farmers' Rights implementation. The overarching objective is to enable indigenous peoples and smallholder farmers to exercise Farmers' Rights and effectively utilize plant genetic resources to improve their food security, even amidst climate change challenges. Expected outcomes include bolstering the resilience of indigenous communities by sustainably managing plant genetic resources, improving livelihoods and seed security, promoting nutritious food consumption from local biodiversity, and garnering support for policy and institutional reforms. The project operates in Kailali, Kanchanpur, Doti, and Dadeldhura, addressing the unique challenges of each district in this diverse region.
