The British Council has been operating in Nepal since 1959.

In Nepal, the British Council has been working with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) and other education agencies for over 64 years to support systemic reforms in the education sector.

About the programme

Education priorities for British Council Nepal are guided by the government’s National Education Policy 2019, the School Education Sector Plan (SESP) priorities, and the strategic priorities of the British Council. British Council has been supporting the Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MoEST) and Centre for Education and Human Resources Development (CEHRD) in several areas for school education sector development including on professional development of teachers.

In 2022, the British Council supported CEHRD with technical assistance to develop a Digital Literacy Teacher Professional Development (TPD) curriculum which has since then been rolled out in various provinces. The Digital Literacy course was developed in the government’s TPD framework - 10 days of face-to-face training followed by 5 days of classroom projects. The direct support provided by the British Council was supporting CEHRD develop a training curriculum, trainers guide and training resource materials in collaboration with a task force formed by the CEHRD.

The DLTPD curriculum since 2022, has been delivered in all seven provinces by CEHRD-trained master trainers with 100+ teachers building the capacity to understand and use information systems and technology in their classrooms.

British Council is looking to assess the effectiveness of DLTPD curriculum development and implementation at the federal and provincial levels through this case study. The lead researcher will lead on case study design and support the field researcher on data collection and will remain accountable for production of the final output.
