Nepal Youth Foundation Nepal (NYF Nepal) is a non-profit organization working for the rights and welfare of the underprivileged children and youth of Nepal through educational, health and other humanitarian projects. 

Olgapuri Children’s Home (“Olga’s little oasis”) is a beautiful, permanent home for up to 80 children ages 1-18 whose parents are unable to care for them.

Wherever possible, NYF is committed to keeping children safe with their own families. This means our Kinship Care program is always considered first, which empowers loving, stable extended family members to raise children in their own communities when parents are unable to do so. Unfortunately, extended family support is not always possible. For these children, NYF built Olgapuri Children’s Village in Lalitpur, just outside Kathmandu.

The children at Olgapuri come from diverse backgrounds, but each of them has experienced trauma, loss, and the absence of stable parental support. Here, NYF commits to ensure that each child receives the holistic family-style care they need to grow into their dreams and realize their great individual potential.

To work in Olgapuri Children’s village as a Project Officer/Child Right Officer we are looking for hiring in the following position.

1. Project Officer/Child Right Officer  (Required number – 1)

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: 

The primary purpose of this position is to work closely with the children living under our protection, collecting/securing their documents, legal documents for protecting parental property, obtaining citizenship rights, and also connecting their emotional part with their keen. This position requires frequent field visits with extra skills to locate the area, deal with the local people, and critically analyze the case for recommendation.  The case study report has to be submitted based on the findings during the actual field visits to the particular area.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

A. Field Visits, Documentation, and Program Facilitation:

  1. Thoroughly understand the nature of OLGAPURI Children Village, its specific targets, standards, and indicators, and plan accordingly to collect required documents which are required for the protection of the children and also to submit to different government agencies when necessary.
  2. Conduct case study visits to different sites as per the information received via different sources and submit a complete report indicating the need and situation also with recommendations for new enrollment.
  3. Ensure that data/reports required for every individual residing at our children's village are kept up to date and the information is updated and verified on a timely basis.  
  4. Prepare and submit field visit report, other program report required by the organization and also by different inline agencies for their evaluation and approval.
  5. Prepare/submit case study reports, sponsor letters, and other documents as required for internal as well as external purposes.
  6. Work closely with children and plan for their extracurricular activities to engage them fully during their holidays.
  7. Manage the child club and organize different club activities to enhance their capacity, talents aligned of preparing them to a responsible citizen in the future.
  8. Assist children in preparing their government documentations, including birth certificates, citizenship, and any other as required. 
  9. Work closely with children and be vigilant to ensure they are in good move and also to present when they deem your necessity.  

B. Child Protection 

  1. Work closely with NYF Nepal projects and undertake monitoring activities via regular visits to ensure the child protection policy has been well implemented 
  2. Take part in various meetings/seminars organized for strengthening child rights and professionally represent NYF Nepal. 
  3. Take an initiative lead on the Child Protection Committee, conduct regular meetings, and continuously update our policy affairs as per various national-level changes that occur time and again.  
  4. Make necessary visits to government officials and other agencies to secure the rights of the children under our care and support. 
  5. Facilitate the orientation for children right within the organization and make everyone aware and updated on issues related to children's rights and their safety.  
  6. Work as a focal person from/for the organization concerning any issues of child protection and child rights. 

C. Others:

  1. Represent the organization at meetings/forums/workshops as and when necessary
  2. And any other tasks as suggested by the Supervisor for the best interest of the organization and the program.

D. REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Rural Development, Social Science), Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience: 2 years’ experience in the related field/community work is desirable.
  • Training: Training in community mobilization is preferred.
  • Knowledge: Community mobilization, working with marginalized and disadvantaged communities, and disadvantaged children.
  • Skills, Abilities & behavior: Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, agreeable & adaptive to changes, learning aptitude, self-motivated & goal/task-oriented, careful handling of office equipment, organize and manage tasks; able to effectively work on computer (Windows-based applications); always exhibit and maintain professional ethics, should be sincere and honest at work, must not be biased and oppressive to any other caste, religion, politics, or any other principles.
  • Duty Station: Olgapuri Children’s Village, Chunikhel, Lalitpur 
  • Others: Min Driving license for two-wheeler (motorbike/scooter).
