Position Title: Project Officer - RE

Reports to: Senior Program Officer / Program Manager

Location: Manbhawan, Lalitpur, with frequent field travel

Duration of Contract: Initially 1 year (extendable based on performance and project duration) (Probation period of 6 months)

Background

Centre for Rural Technology, Nepal (CRT/N) is a professional non-governmental organization engaged in developing and promoting appropriate rural technologies effective in meeting the basic needs and improving the livelihood of rural people. Established in August 1989 under the Company Act, CRT/N was re-registered with the Government of Nepal (GoN) under the Social Organization Registration Act 1977 (2034 B.S.) since October 1998.

CRT/N’s vision is to become a professional and innovative organization and knowledge centre in renewable energy and appropriate technology, delivering quality services to local communities to improve their livelihood. Its mission includes developing, promoting, and disseminating environmentally sound rural and appropriate technologies; strengthening the capability of rural communities through mobilization of local resources; and conducting adaptive and action-oriented research on indigenous and improved rural technologies. The organization also trains and transfers technical information and know-how on production, installation, and management of rural and appropriate technologies, assists in developing technical and institutional capacities for sustainable development, and provides technical support and consulting services in the fields of rural energy, environment conservation, and climate change.

Within this institutional framework, CRT/N emphasizes upgrading traditional technologies, improving energy efficiency, and promoting diversified and versatile applications to respond to the needs of rural communities and enterprises. Building on this mandate, CRT/N has been actively developing and implementing projects on climate change mitigation and adaptation with a focus on renewable energy and energy efficient technologies, climate smart and related technologies. To support this effort, the Project Officer will assist to strengthen decentralized renewable energy solutions, energy transition across sectors, productive energy use, capacity building, and inclusive energy access for all.

The scope of the work for the Project Officer - RE:

Under the supervision of the Senior Program Officer, the Project Officer - RE will be responsible for:

  • Support day-to-day implementation of project activities in line with approved work plans and budgets.
  • Provide technical input in designing, installation, testing and commissioning of RE projects (Solar Mini grid, rooftop, water pumping)
  • Assure quality of the system components and system installation.
  • Conduct research to strengthen the design and implementation of RE projects.
  • Conduct field monitoring, data collection, and documentation of project progress, results, and lessons learned.
  • Assist in organizing trainings, workshops, field demonstrations, and community mobilization activities.
  • Prepare activity reports, progress updates, case stories, and inputs for donor reporting.
  • Support procurement, logistics coordination, and administrative tasks related to project implementation.
  • Facilitate stakeholder coordination meetings with local governments, community institutions, private sector partners, and beneficiaries and prepare minutes and follow-up actions.
  • Support in exploring potential funding sources and opportunities and develop project proposal in partnership and collaboration with National, Local, Regional and International Organizations.
  • Support other project activities of CRT/N as and when required. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Project Officer/component lead/in line with project and organizational needs.

Qualifications and experiences required

  • Master’s degree in Engineering (Preferably Mechanical, Electrical, and Industrial, Renewable Energy) or related fields.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in project implementation, preferably in renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy transition and climate change. Experience working with industrial sector and development partners is an advantage.
  • Understanding of the renewable energy systems, solar systems design, emission quantification and financial analysis of the energy transition
  • Field-level experience in renewable energy projects implementation, training delivery, stakeholder engagement, and monitoring is strongly preferred.
  • Good understanding of Energy and Climate policies and priorities of the Government of Nepal.
  • Strong learning attitude, research, analytical, and communication skills with an ability to lead in required cases.
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Nepali language.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to manage multiple deadlines independently.
  • Proficiency in PV design tools and financial analysis. Energy Audit and Efficiency training is an advantage.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.

Duration & Working Hours

  • Appointment initially for 6 months as a probation period, contract will be at least a year and is extendable based on performance and organizational needs.
  • Working hours will align with CRT/N’s normal office schedule. 

Remuneration

Remuneration and allowances be based on the qualifications and experience, in line with CRT/N’s human resource policies. Strongly recommended to mention the salary expectation in the cover letter and mail.
