RUWDUC, established in 1995 with the objective of empowering and uplifting disadvantaged women, adolescents and children believes that every human being has an inherent right to a healthy life, equal opportunities to education, employment, quality health care, and access to justice, and to live a violence-free and peaceful life, devoid from all forms of discrimination.

RUWDUC is implementing Watershed Project entitled “Watershed management and development plan: Generating a replicable watershed management model”The goal of the project is to improve governance in watershed management to tackle water insecurity and local water conflict in Nepal through evidence-based intervention. The project is being implemented in Rangoon Watershed of Sudurpashchim Province that covers areas of Parashuram Municipality, Aalital Rural Muniicpality, and Joryal Rural Municipality. The Year-I of the project had proposed resolution model for water-use-conflicts, put forth water-governance structure at different scales, and identified the data-gap that hindered decision making. This year the project is implementing those findings through a series of meetings and discussions at watershed and national level along with development of watershed database. Therefore, RUWDUC is seeking job applications from qualified Nepali nationals for a maximum of 11 months fixed term contract for the following position:

1. Job Title: Project Officer (PO) -1 

2. Job Purpose: 

The purpose of this job will carry out series of activities to test and validate these findings along with development of database for Rangoon Watershed.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • PO will be based at RUWDUC Head Office at Kathmandu and frequent field visits. First few months may require to be stationed at Rangoon Watershed to understand project area and local stakeholders. Prepare Annual Work Plans of project, as guided by the project document, and review and revise the plan on monthly basis. Develop Terms of Reference (TOR) for project activities and ensure their smooth and quality implementation along with timely documentation and reporting. 
  • Reporting tasks include event reporting, monthly reporting, quarterly narrative reports, annual project reports and other.  
  • Identify key stakeholders at watershed level and national level and coordinate with them for their participation in the meetings, and workshops. 
  • Prepare list of participants identified in resolution model of water-use-conflicts and carry out meetings. 
  • Host workshop at national level with the identified stakeholders of water governance. 
  • Assist partners in development of data collection tools, coordinate in field level data collection, and support to disseminate data through various mediums. 
  • Plan budget requirements for all activities and project along with assisting finance officer for timely financial reporting.  
  • Provide supervision and direction to the social mobilizer to conduct and report regular activity of Women Empowerment Centre and to manage other filed level activities. 
  • Ensure that all cross-cutting issues such as governance, social inclusion and equity are applied in the project interventions to achieve the project goal showing clear and quantifiable improvements in target areas. 
  • Make sure that database for project activities is established and updated and ensure that relevant programmatic information systems are readily available at office. 
  • Coordinate with National Director, and Executive Director as and when necessary in planning and implementation of the project such as develop and submit all periodic/programmatic reports/papers timely including other works, as required.

  • Ensure all job descriptions and performance appraisal format are completed and orientation done as required.

Requirements/qualification of Project Officer (PO): 

  • Master’s Degree in Water Resource Management, Environmental Science, Water resource engineering or similar field with 3 years of working experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree in above subjects with 5 years of experience
  • Knowledge of integrated water resource management and river basin management along with familiarity of related stakeholders. 
  • Familiar with working modality of non-governmental organizations. 
  • Having prior knowledge of Rangoon watershed or have worked in Sudurpashchim Province. 
  • Can organize watershed level and national level workshops with participants from the government. 
  • Fluent in writing (typing) and speaking English & Nepali languages written (typing) and spoken. Ability to understand and communicate people in their local language will be an asset. 
  • Presentation skills to highlight the areas of success and failures with qualitative and quantitative data
  • Ability to work in busy working environment, handling work pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Leadership, time management, good coordination skills, and efficient team player.

Duration: The probation period will be for 3 months, with the possibility of extension based on the project need and the satisfactory performance of the candidate.
