Background

Powering Nepal’s Green Industrial Future (Power-GIF) is a Government of Norway–supported initiative aiming to utilize the projected growth in power generation to accelerate Nepal’s transition toward a low-carbon, climate-resilient, and industrialized economy.  The initiative, aimed at promoting industrial electrification and clean energy adoption to advance green, resilient and inclusive development, is being implemented by Centre for Rural Technology led consortium in participation of the Nepal Electricity Authority, Confederation of Nepalese Industries, Center for Energy Studies, and Ambidience Global. With a combination of technical expertise, policy engagement, and strong private sector linkages, the project supports industrial decarbonization through policy support, technology demonstration, capacity building, digital innovations and access to innovative financing solutions.

CRT/N is seeking a qualified and motivated Project Manager to lead day-to-day implementation and operational delivery of the Power-GIF project. The Project Manager is responsible for day-to-day implementation and operational delivery of the “Powering Nepal’s Green Industrial Future (Power-GIF) Project”, ensuring activities, outputs, and outcomes are delivered in line with approved plans, budgets, and donor requirements. The role focuses on project execution, partner coordination, schedule and budget management, grant compliance, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

1. Team Management and Project Delivery

  • Lead and supervise a multidisciplinary project team, ensuring clarity in roles, responsibilities and performance expectations
  • Allocate tasks effectively across technical, MEAL, finance and field team to ensure coordinated delivery
  • Conduct regular team meetings, review progress and resolve operational bottlenecks
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive and solution-oriented team culture
  • Provide coaching, feedback and support professional development of team members
  • Coordinate delivery of activities across the project Outcome Areas: industrial assessments, clean energy technology deployment, capacity building, digitalization and green and innovative finance, and follow-up
  • Lead preparation of all project reports—technical, narrative, MEL inputs, and activity documentation.
  • Track progress against milestones, address delays or constraints, and maintain accurate project documentation (action trackers, decision logs, implementation records).

2. Consortium and Stakeholder Coordination

  • Serve as the primary contact for consortium partners and local stakeholder at the operational level
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key government institutions, donors, development partners, consortium partners, relevant non-governmental organizations, and/or the private sector as key stakeholders of the project
  • Facilitate coordination meetings, monitor partner deliverables, and ensure alignment with approved work plans and timelines across the consortia.
  • Support training, awareness, and capacity-building activities of key stakeholders

3. Industrial Engagement and Clean-Energy Technology Implementation

  • Lead industry onboarding, scheduling, and site coordination.
  • Develop and implement strategies for engaging private sector in
    • Pilot/lighthouse demonstration
    • Electrification of production and thermal processes
    • Energy-efficient equipment upgrades
    • Electrical infrastructure upgrades (smart-grid planning)
    • Renewable energy solutions (where applicable)
  • Ensure activities are implemented with minimal disruption to industry operations
  • Encourage industries to adopt practices that improve workplace safety, reduce hazardous exposures, and enhance worker well‑being alongside productivity gains.
  • Promote opportunities for green jobs, upskilling, and reskilling of workers as industries transition to cleaner and more efficient technologies

4. Private Sector Investment Facilitation

  • Oversee development of financial modeling, economic analysis, and bankability assessments of the interventions recommended by the Technical Team.
  • Integrate technical and financial perspectives to ensure feasibility, commercial viability and fundability of proposed interventions
  • Assess broader economic and sectoral benefits of interventions and support investment planning and negotiations for participating stakeholders

5. Financial & Procurement Coordination

  • Accountable to donor, CRT/N and stakeholders for ensuring funds are used effectively, efficiently and in line with the grant agreement.
  • Monitor project expenditures against approved budgets, flag variances, and support corrective actions.
  • Support transparent and compliant procurement processes as a procurement committee member

6. GESI and ESG Integration in Project Implementation

  • Integrate GESI and ESG considerations into clean technology deployment, site visits, and pilot activities, ensuring occupational health and safety, accessibility, fairness, and protection from adverse impacts.
  • Promote equitable access to green jobs, training, upskilling, and reskilling opportunities for women, disadvantaged groups, and workers affected by the transition to cleaner technologies.
  • Apply social inclusion, gender equality, and ESG criteria when developing financial models, investment planning, loan facilitation, and industry-level financing decisions.
  • Ensure collection and use of basic disaggregated data by sex, disability, and social background for trainings, events, and employment-related outcomes to track inclusive benefits.
  • Support inclusive leadership and recruitment practices by encouraging diverse teams and accessible, welcoming processes for women, persons with disabilities, and underrepresented groups.

7. Grant & Donor Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to grant agreements, donor requirements, and approved budgets.
  • Track milestones, indicators, and reporting deadlines.
  • Support donor audits, reviews, and monitoring 

8. Reporting and Communication

  • Prepare monthly progress reports and lead the preparation of the final project report.  
  • Maintain project risk and issue registers and identify emerging risks early.
  • Escalate technical, safety, or performance issues to the Management.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental and social safeguards.
  • Address unforeseen implementation issues jointly with the Management and relevant team members

Requirements

Qualifications 

  • At least Post-graduate Degree in Economics, Energy Management, Environment Management, Project Management, International Development, MBA and/or related subjects in Industrial Decarbonization with a minimum of eight years of professional experience leading donor funded projects.
  • Recognized leadership, experience holding leadership positions in the past is preferred;
  • Effective and efficient operational and organizational skills coupled with project management and project coordination experience, including team management and quality assurance.
  • Strong knowledge in industrial decarbonization strategies, climate policies, and Nepal’s energy sector (including GRID strategy and NDCs).
  • Experience in stakeholder coordination with industries, utilities, government agencies, and financial institutions

2. Functional

  • Technical literacy to understand, integrate and guide technical and non-technical workstreams
  • System thinking with a proven track record in successful development and/or implementation and monitoring of similar program/project.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, stakeholder engagement, and consensus-building skills; ability to foster strong relationships with key government agencies and understand their needs;
  • Flexible, responsive, and able to manage multiple activities in multidisciplinary teams while meeting tight deadlines
  • Ethics, data governance and sustainability focus to ensure responsible compliant and long-term impact
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English and Nepali.

3. Organizational
