Reports to: Senior Project Engineer
Location: Birgunj with frequent travel within the Birgunj-Simara Industrial Corridor
Duration of Contract: Initially 2 years (Probation period of 3 months)

Background
Powering Nepal’s Green Industrial Future (Power-GIF) is a Government of Norway–supported initiative aiming to utilize the projected growth in power generation to accelerate Nepal’s transition toward a low-carbon, climate-resilient, and industrialized economy. The initiative, aimed at promoting industrial electrification and clean energy adoption to advance green, resilient and inclusive development, is being implemented by Centre for Rural Technology led consortium in participation of the Nepal Electricity Authority, Confederation of Nepalese Industries, Center for Energy Studies, and Ambidience Global. With a combination of technical expertise, policy engagement, and strong private sector linkages, the project supports industrial decarbonization through policy support, technology demonstration, capacity building, digital innovations and access to innovative financing solutions.
To support the field-level implementation of project activities providing technical and operational support to the Senior Project Engineer, the project is looking for a Project Engineer (at site).
Scope of Work
The Project Engineer based at Birgunj will support the field level implementation of the activities in industrial electrification, energy efficiency, and renewable energy integration.
Under the supervision of the Senior Project Engineer, Project Engineer will be responsible to:
- Provide handholding support to the industries in accessing, selecting and financing appropriate clean energy technologies.
- Conduct the assessment, preliminary design and financial modeling of renewable energy (RE) interventions at industrial sites.
- Assist in deployment of renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) interventions at industrial sites.
- Support site assessments, baseline data collection, and preliminary technical surveys.
- Support routine monitoring of field activities and track progress against implementation plans.
- Support basic performance monitoring and data collection for implemented systems.
- Assist in maintaining field records including measurement data, installation logs, and site documentation.
- Assist the Senior Project Engineer in ensuring QA/QC of installations and adherence to technical standards.
- Support identification of operational issues and report them to the Senior Project Engineer.
- Provide support in data collection and validation required for financial analysis and green finance interventions.
- Assist in documenting energy-saving opportunities and basic cost and performance data.
- Assist in organizing and conducting capacity building and O&M training sessions for industry staff and other relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental standards during clean energy technology installation/retrofitting.
- Support documentation of case studies, lessons learned, and field reports.
- Provide inputs for progress reporting to the Senior Project Engineer.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Project Engineer and Executive Director in line with project and organizational needs.
Workstation
The Project Engineer shall be based in project office in Birgunj with frequent industrial visits within the Birgunj-Simara Industrial Corridor.
Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- Masters’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, Energy Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in industrial energy systems, RE & EE projects, or field-based engineering roles.
- Proven experience with site assessments, data collection, and technical documentation.
- Hands-on experience in renewable energy systems design, installation and performance monitoring.
- Understanding of energy efficiency technologies
- Exposure to energy audits or industrial systems (motors, boilers, HVAC, pumps, etc.) is an advantage.
- Understanding of financial aspects of energy projects (e.g., payback period, cost estimation).
- Familiarity with MRV concepts and data collection processes will be an added advantage.
- Strong willingness to work in field conditions and travel frequently to project sites.
- Good coordination and communication skills with technical teams and industry stakeholders.
- Ability to work under guidance and deliver tasks within deadlines.
- Proficiency in MS Office, solar design and data handling tools.
- Fluency in English and Nepali (written and spoken).
- Proficiency in Bhojpuri language will be considered an added advantage.
Working Hours
Working hours will align with project office’s normal schedule (Monday to Friday)
