‘Renewable Energy Access for Livelihoods in fragile buffer Zones (REALiZe)’ project will be jointly implemented by Renewable World (RW), Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research and Development (LI-BIRD) and local partners in Surkhet and Salyan districts from July 2020 to December 2023. This project forms part of a wider ‘Renewable Energy for Change’ programme. The project aims to bring systemic change in the sustainable management of the northern buffer zone area of Bardiya and Banke National Parks with tangible improvements in livelihoods using renewable energy access.

1. Project Coordinator: Conservation and Livelihood -1

(Based at Joint Regional Office Surkhet with frequent travel to project sites within and outside the district)

Job Summary

Reporting to the Programme Operations Director, the Project Coordinator /Conservation and Livelihood (PC) is responsible to coordinate and provide technical support from LI-BIRD’s side and lead conservation and value chain components of the project through providing a leadership role in areas of planning, implementation, monitoring, coordination and reporting. The PC provides strategic input to the project and leads the components of forest resource management, systematically identifying and promoting value chains and building capacity of local partner NGOs. The PC ensures proper management of the project resources including staff and budget. PC requires establishing the highest level of coordination with governments, partners, Community Forest User Group (CFUG)s, schools, Buffer Zone Management Committees (BZMCs), National Park Authorities and other key stakeholders at the local, provincial and national level. S/he also requires to work closely with RW and various units at LI-BIRD to ensure adequate coordination and programme synergies.

Education and Experience

Masters Degree in Forestry or Natural Resource Management with five years of work experience in designing, implementing, monitoring and reporting livelihood related programme activities in rural settings. Experience in forest-based enterprise and agriculture value chain will add value.

2. Livelihood Officer -1

(Based at Joint Regional Office Surkhet with frequent travel to project sites within and outside the district)

Job Summary

Reporting to the Project Coordinator /Conservation and Livelihood (PC), the Livelihood Officer (LO) is responsible for managing the livelihood component of the project ‘Renewable Energy Access for Livelihoods in fragile buffer Zones (REALiZe)’. The Livelihood Officer provides strategic guidance and technical support required for local partners for carrying out livelihood components effectively. The Livelihood Officer shall be responsible to establish coordination with governments, partners, Community Forest User Group (CFUG)s, schools, Buffer Zone Management Committees (BZMC) s, National Park Authorities and other key stakeholders at the local and provincial level.

Education and Experience: Masters Degree in Agribusiness or Livestock Management with three years of work experience in designing, implementing, monitoring and reporting agriculture value chain related activities in rural settings.
