Nepal Youth Foundation Nepal (NYF Nepal) is a non-profit organization working to advance the rights and welfare of underprivileged children and youth in Nepal through educational, health, and other humanitarian projects.
One of the prominent programs of NYF Nepal is Nutritional Rehabilitation Home (NRH), which is a residential facility for severely malnourished children where the health status of such children is restored, and at the same time, provides education to the caretakers (most often mothers). In contrast, the child is being treated at the NRH. So far, 17 of such NRHs have been successfully established in various districts in Nepal. One of the prominent areas of NRH is community outreach activities.
To add on to the existing team of professionals in community outreach activities, NYF Nepal is seeking a competent and self–motivated candidate for the position of "Project Associate-Community Outreach" for the NRH based at Sunakothi, Lalitpur.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Take initiation to increase access of malnourished children to the NRH for treatment and assist the Project Officer to organize outreach activities, including follow-up of discharged children and prepare an activity report.
This position is required to report to the Program Coordinator/Manager; however needs to work closely with the Project Officer under his/her direct supervision.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Follow-up/Monitoring:
- Maintain detailed information on children admitted at NRH so that they can be easily located for follow-up. Monitor the growth of all such children 3 times after their discharge from NRH.
- Prepare a complete file of each admitted child that includes admission, discharge, and follow-up information along with each time's photographs. Coordinate with other staff members to arrange it.
Community Outreach Camp:
- Help the Project Officer to organize Nutritional Outreach Camp effectively at least 4 times a year (frequency might be more), where children can be screened from a nutrition perspective, and the mothers can participate in educational/demonstration sessions.
- Help to arrange school children screening and nutrition education for them.
- Analyze collected data (malnutrition status), prepare a sheet, and inform the responsible person from the same community to refer the children for rehabilitation.
Administration:
- Provide the necessary data and information to the supervisor whenever necessary.
- Coordinate and establish a good relationship with hospitals, health posts, NGO's, CBOs, Municipality, and local schools to increase admissions to full capacity.
- Carry out other support activities as needed to enable NRH's in effectively delivering services. Perform any task assigned by the Program Coordinator.
Key Working Relationships:
- Internal: Coordinator – Health and Nutrition, NRH Manager, Project Officer, Finance and Account Unit, HR and Admin Unit, and other staff members as per need.
- External: Partner organizations, relevant government authorities, and other relevant stakeholders.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Minimum 10+2 (preferably with a health background)
- Experience: At least 1 year of experience in the relevant field.
- Knowledge: Well acquainted with the details of field work related to the nutrition program.
- Skills, Abilities: Must possess sound interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work in diverse communities and with people; should be self-motivated, flexible, and task-oriented. Able to work on a computer (Windows-based applications)
- Duty Station: Sunakothi, Lalitpur, Nepal
- Travel Requirement: High frequency of field travel to villages and various parts of Nepal/program priority areas.
- Language: Bilingual, English and Nepali.
- Others: Driving license for a two-wheeler (motorbike/scooter).
