The Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) is a large-scale clinical and public health research unit, with sites offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam, Jakarta in Indonesia and Kathmandu in Nepal.

Purpose of the job positionThe Public Engagement Associate plays a crucial role in the day-to-day execution of public engagement activities, supporting the larger strategic goals of the organization. They will support the planning, execution, and evaluation of PE activities. This role involves engaging with the community, assisting in the organization of events in the communities, and contributing to the creation of engagement materials for public engagement.
Key responsibilities and tasks

The PE Associate will report to the PE Manager and will be responsible for:

1. Supporting Engagement Strategies:

  • Coordinate with PE manager and PE officer to assist in developing and executing public engagement plans and strategies,
  • Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with community groups, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Actively participate in field visits to communities involved in our research

2. Support implementation of engagement activities:

  • Help organize and participate in public engagement events in the community, workshops, and other outreach activities.
  • Support and arrange logistics for events, including venue selection, scheduling, and promotional efforts.

3. Communication and Outreach:

  • Build and maintain rapport with community organizations, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Assist to design and distribute engagement materials (booklets, brochures, posters, TV programs, podcasts etcetera) to be used in the community for public engagement,
  • Represent OUCRU Nepal PE team through all communities to communicate about the research activities as required.

4. Participant Engagement:

  • Assist PE officers to engage with the participants to provide information about the programs and initiatives,
  • Support the PE Team to gather feedback from participants to inform and improve engagement efforts.

5. Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Support PE Manager for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of public engagement activities using the established metrics system at OUCRU.

6. Social science research:

  • Assist the team to develop data collection tools and collect data for social science and ethnographic research conducted by PE department.
  • Conduct transcription and translation of interviews, discussions, or field notes when required.

7. Others:

  • Carry out duties as reasonably required by OUCRU Nepal.
Requirements
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Communications, Social Sciences, Sociology, Anthropology or a related field.
  • Experience
    • 1-2 years of experience in public engagement, community outreach, or a related field,
    • Knowledge of qualitative research in public health.
  • Skills:
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills,
    • Flexibility to work with the local community and enthusiastic to learn,
    • Good command of English language and proficiency in Newari language (Nepal Bhasha) is preferred. 
    • Social and diplomacy skills,
    • Respects group dynamics.
