Part-Time Online Primary Tutor (Work from Home)

Overseas Recruitment Ltd

Details / requirements:

The Objective

We are seeking a highly engaging and experienced online primary-school tutor for our 7-year-old daughter, who attends Year 3 at a primary school in the United Kingdom.

We are not looking for somebody simply to read from a screen, work mechanically through textbooks, or assign endless worksheets. We want a tutor who can plan engaging, age-appropriate lessons and help build strong foundations, confidence, independent thinking and genuine curiosity.

The teaching will primarily cover Maths and English, with Science and broader enrichment activities incorporated where appropriate. Teaching should broadly complement the English National Curriculum at Year 3 / Key Stage 2 level.

Schedule – Please Read Before Applying

Monday to Friday: approximately 1 hour per day, starting at around 4:00 PM UK time.

During the UK winter this corresponds to approximately 9:45 PM–10:45 PM Nepal time. Applicants must therefore be genuinely comfortable working at this time on a long-term basis.

Weekend: one additional session of approximately 1–1.5 hours on either Saturday or Sunday. Weekend timing is flexible and can normally be arranged during the Nepal afternoon.

We are looking for someone interested in a stable, long-term tutoring arrangement.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will have substantial hands-on experience teaching primary-school children, particularly approximately ages 6–9.

Applicants whose teaching experience is predominantly with secondary/high-school students should only apply if they can demonstrate strong experience and ability working with younger children.

We particularly value tutors who understand modern primary teaching approaches, including:

  • mental maths and number sense
  • problem solving and mathematical reasoning
  • reading fluency and comprehension
  • phonics where appropriate
  • vocabulary, spelling and grammar
  • structured and creative writing
  • questioning and discussion
  • educational games, quizzes and interactive activities
  • encouraging children to explain how and why they reached an answer

The successful tutor should be patient, warm, reliable and capable of adjusting their explanation when a child does not initially understand a concept.

Online Teaching Requirements

The tutor must have:

  • reliable high-speed internet
  • a laptop or desktop computer
  • a quiet and suitable teaching environment
  • confidence using platforms such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams
  • ability to use digital whiteboards, screen sharing, interactive quizzes and other suitable online teaching tools
  • ability to prepare and share appropriate teaching materials.

Teaching Approach

A typical 60-minute lesson might, for example, contain a combination of focused teaching, questioning, practice, interactive activities, quizzes and a short mental/movement break.

However, we are looking for a tutor capable of planning lessons intelligently rather than following a rigid template.

Some sessions may focus mainly on Maths, others on English, reading, Science or broader problem-solving and enrichment.

The objective is not excessive homework or exam pressure. We want consistent academic development while keeping learning enjoyable and sustainable for a 7-year-old.

Parent Communication

The tutor should be comfortable giving parents brief regular feedback on:

  • what was taught
  • what the child understood well
  • areas requiring further work
  • suggested next steps

Parents will provide guidance about the child's school curriculum and priorities, but the tutor should be capable of independently preparing and delivering the day-to-day lessons.

How to Apply – Please Read Carefully

Applications that do not address the following points may not be considered.

Please send your application and CV to vivek_p10000@yahoo.com and include:

  4. Explicit confirmation that you are comfortable working approximately 9:45 PM–10:45 PM Nepal time during the UK winter.
  5. An example of how you would structure a 60-minute online lesson for a 7-year-old to keep the child engaged and learning effectively.
  6. Your experience with online teaching tools and techniques.
  7. Your expected monthly remuneration for the proposed schedule.
  8. Your availability to start.

Alternative Pathway for Exceptional Talent: While formal paid teaching experience is preferred, we are open to exceptional non-traditional candidates, such as experienced homeschooling parents, education students, or individuals with substantial unpaid tutoring experience. To be considered through this pathway, your response to Question 5 (the 60-minute lesson structure) should demonstrate a strong, practical and intuitive understanding of how to engage and teach a 7-year-old effectively.
